these lamps usually last around 700 hours. Thank God the m18 lamp head comes with an actual counter to let you know when you are close. Somewhere around 500 hours, I would buy a replacement bulb. just keep it with you handy in case you blow a bulb.one quick gaffer trick is to throw a scrim between the lamp lens and the barn doors when you shut off the light in cold weather so you don't crack a glass on the lamp, or blow the bulb. the theory is that the metal in the scrim will help the glass to cool down at a slower rate.
