Impact POWERSYNC16D overview

  • 1Description

The Impact PowerSync16 DC Receiver (100-240VAC) is one-half of the PowerSync 16 radio slave system for triggering flash and camera units up to 590' (180 m) away indoors, or 200' (60 m) outdoors using the PowerSync16 Transmitter (available separately).

PowerSync16 has 16 digitally coded channels available so you can even work at events with other photographers without flash or radio interference. You can trigger as many flashes or cameras as you like from a single transmitter, as long as they're all on the same frequency and have this PowerSync16 DC receiver or the optional AC receiver. Flash sync speeds of up to 1/250 second are possible with PowerSync16. Combine this receiver with a camera release cable to match your particular camera model and you can use the PowerSync16 system as a wireless camera remote control.

This receiver operates on 2x AA batteries. The PowerSync system is not designed to perform in TTL mode with flash units - the flash must be set to Manual Mode.

Note: This remote does not provide high-voltage sync protection, and is not recommended for use with flash units that have a trigger voltage of more than 6V.

16 Reliable Channels
Digitally coded at 2.4 GHz for multiple set-ups; work at events with other photographers without the worry of flash or radio interference.
Extensive Range of Reliable Performance
590' (180 m) indoors; 200'+ (60+ m) outdoors. An above-average range for the most demanding situations (radio interference and low battery strength will lower your effective range).
Fast Sync Speeds
Compatible with most cameras, offering a maximum sync speed of 1/250 second; allows the user to capture most studio and event scenes.
Multipurpose Hot-Shoe Mount
This receiver is equipped with a multipurpose hot-shoe mount for use with on-camera or remote portable flash. Tests have established that the mount works with the hot-shoes of most major brands.
Convenient Mounting
The receiver features a 1/4"-20 threads, for convenient mounting on any 1/4"-20 mounting screw. For added convenience, it also features an eyelet designed to accept a lanyard.
Convert to Universal Voltage
By adding the optional AC adapter (Impact# 9031520) you can convert this DC unit to be used as an AC unit. Besides for eliminating the need of batteries, this will also provide you with the ease and convenience of global voltage (100-240V). With the adapter attached, the receiver utilizes current from a host flash lighting unit. Operate your receiver without the hassle of replacing batteries.

    Impact POWERSYNC16D reviews

PowerSync16 DC Receiver is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 143.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product I owned one of these already so I bought another one. I'm not a professional photographer so I don't need studio stobes but I love studio lighting. I'll buy a third one soon. I shot a wedding for a friend and they worked great. Not one misfire. They work. I can't give them any higher mark than an A+. I don't know all the other model on the market except the Pocket Wizards and I hear they are expensive. I read reviews about them being fragile so I'm careful with them as I am with all my gear. I haven't had anything break or come loose but even if they did come loose, they're such a good product that I would just tape them shut.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent and Unobtrusive We're using this and the the matching transmitter with a Speedotron strobe setup and a Canon 5D Mark lll in a product photography production studio. Overall it has worked great, though there is an occasional misfire it doesn't really effect us due to the subject and setting. It might be annoying if we were shooting models and the misfire causes a missed moment. The range is awesome, though, at maximum we are only 50 feet from the power supply. The batteries haven't been an issue either, taking 150 shots a day for 7 days now and haven't had to change'em. Very happy with the purchase and would definitely recommend!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Couldn't be easier to use! This is my first radio remote set and it couldn't have been easier to set up and use. I have a mixed bag of SLR strobes (Nikon SB-28, SB-80, and SB-800) that span the past 10-12 years of strobe technology and this makes using them together for a portrait setting a piece of cake. You can't use the iTTL mode that the newer cameras and strobes support with these, but you can set the strobes to automatic and let them control the light for the actual distance (in case you don't have a light meter that reads strobe lighting). Fortunately, most of the times you'd use a remote, neither the subject nor the flash is moving so once you get the light set to where you like it, you're good.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great starter kit I think this is an awesome kit. I'm just getting into off camera flash and this kit makes it very simple to get your flash off the camera. I shoot with the Canon 7D and a 600ex-rt. One thing that should be noted is that this is a manual flash; you won't have any control of your flash from the back of your camera. You also won't have ETTL or high speed sync capabilities. For a beginner like myself, it's absolutely no big deal; I just have to walk to my flash if I want to make any adjustments. Eventually, I will upgrade to a system that does have those options (PocketWizards, I believe). For the price, if you're just starting out with OCF- get this kit. And read Syl Arenas 'Speedliters Handbook'.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product for the money! This is great for when you have to do a location set up on your own. I can set my lights and background, Grab the Power sync 16, and walk to the background and test fire and meter my lights, using only one person. Radio transmitters are also great for avoiding other unwanted flashes from triggering the flash units. I've used this only twice so far but have had 100% of my flashes fired. Runs on common AA batteries which I already carry. An AC model is also available but I felt this DC unit is a little more versatile if there is no AC power readily available. So far no down side to report.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I would reconmend to a friend This is my first wireless trigger system. So far, everything is working perfectly. I may have limited knowledge of wireless triggers, but these work exactly as I would expect, never missing a fire. Setup is so simple, not even giving it a thought. Right out of the box, onto the camera and flash, worked first time. Construction seem to be well made, small and compact. Fort size, ease of use, simplicity, you really can't go wrong. And a bonus as the price was right.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for the price Best bang for the buck. It does what its suppose to do. Great construction. What I like about it the most is that it has a built-in hotshoe for your flash. Great range when paired with the matching transmitter. I was about to fork over big money for Pocket Wizards but after using these, why pay twice as much when these do the same thing? Sure, it doesn't have wireless ettl but who really needs that anyways??? I would buy these again for sure!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Affordable and Durable Amazing trigger and receivers, especially for the price. As others have stated, I was looking for a more cost-effective alternative to PW's. I purchased the trigger/receiver set and one additional receiver and am very happy. I don't see any reason to upgrade or spend more for the much costlier competition. I intend on adding a few more receivers as my lighting needs increase. Durability does not seem to be an issue -- these are very solid! Being able to mount directly to a hotshoe is a great bonus. Buy a set, you will not regret it.
