Ilford 1799178 overview

  • 1Description

A versatile paper for general black and white enlargements, this box of 50 sheets of 8 x 10" Multigrade IV RC DeLuxe Paper from Ilford features a pearl 44M surface finish that has a more textured appearance than glossy paper to help reduce overwhelming surface reflections, yet still retains some reflectivity to achieve deeper black values for a longer apparent tonal scale. Its bright white base tint delivers a cool-to-neutral image color, and it responds well to select toners, especially selenium, for increasing the effective print lifespan. As a variable contrast paper, it responds to seven full grades of contrast during printing, when using multigrade filters, and it is suitable for printing both conventional black and white negatives as well as chromogenic black and white negative films. Additionally, the paper can be processed using standard black and white chemistry in either trays or using machine processors.

Ilford 1799178 reviews

Multigrade IV RC DeLuxe Paper (Pearl, 8 x 10", 50 Sheets) is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 103.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Best in it's Category For RC paper, Ilford's Multigrade Pearl is pretty much the favorite of students, instructors, professionals, hobbyists, and labs that still offer traditional black and white services. The paper works flawlessly every time, shows extremely consistent batch-to-batch manufacturing, responds very well to contrast filter adjustments, and dries perfectly when properly squeegeed and heat dried. It is an excellent paper, and a great choice for anyone in the market for RC papers. I would highly recommend this paper in any size to photographers of all skill levels. For those looking for a bit of gloss to their prints, this is perfect. The Ilford RC gloss is extremely plastic-y looking, embodying the 'RC look' some have come to hold against all RC papers. The pearl finds an excellent middle ground, providing enough gloss to yield improved contrast while not looking too synthetic.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ilford MG RC Paper There aren't too many high-quality RC papers around these days, and Ilford makes the best for my purposes. I use this paper for my work prints, before I commit myself to making exhibition prints on fiber paper. The paper has always been consistent and reliable and -- most important -- is always available at B&H.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful prints I use this product to create full sheet prints that utilize the style that is street photography (Robert Frank-esque). This paper never fails to create beautiful, sharp prints that have a wide variety of greys for a nicely contrasted print. The only complaint is that sometimes the times are different for enlarging than with other paper, but, then again that is to be expected. Although this is more expensive than other papers, I would no doubt choose it over other papers because the quality lives up to other prints.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Paper, Great Price Have used this product for four years now. It is durable and perfect for my photography. The paper is a mix between matte and glossy. Thus, it has some shine but not much making it have a nice depth to it. It lasts for a long time and if you ever want to make sure to preserve it, just stick it in the freezer. With Pearl, the blacks are not as deep as glossy yet this paper can get a pretty good black. Images have great contrast and gradient. Photographs I have printed four years ago still look as though they were printed yesterday. I cannot think of any cons. This is a good pack of paper for a good price. It is nice for work prints, contact sheets, and final prints. I definitely would recommend this product along with the Ilford Fiber Paper, a nicer quality paper for final prints.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Reliable and Easy to Use This paper is perfect for a darkroom beginner. It dries quickly, has consistent results, and isn't too shiny under light. I would recommend this for any beginner like me.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Bang for your buck This paper is especially good for making contact sheets and test strips. Aside from the paper being somewhat thin, which can be resolved by purchasing a higher gsm, the end result is a sharp, good quality print (not affected by lower gsm). The tonal range is exceptional, working well with Ilford brand films. I like it because I can use it with or without filters to achieve different depths and effects. Great choice for beginners or enthusiasts on a budget.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Quality I am taking a black and white photography class, and purchased this paper to use for everything from standard photo developing to creating both positive and negative photograms. It has performed very well for all my uses up to this point, and I anticipate it continuing to do so in the future. I especially enjoy the pearl finish to the paper. It is not overly glossy, but a subtle step up from a flat matte. I will definitely use this again.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Perfect fit I originally ordered this particular paper because it was what the teacher for my photography course requires that we ordered. After using it for a few months, I realized that it is the best choice for general use in printing black and white. I like that the pearl is a great balance between glossy and matte, both of which seem to distort the image some with reflection or lack of. It has also been the most economical choice for me.
