Vello RWII-C overview

  • 1Description

Trigger your camera's shutter wirelessly with the FreeWave Plus Wireless Remote Shutter Release from Vello, a lightweight remote control system that will help you avoid unwanted camera movement. This 2.4 GHz model is compatible with Canon cameras and will work both wired and wirelessly up to 320', depending on your own needs and setup. This makes it useful for photographing wildlife or for macro and long exposures where it is necessary to eliminate any chance of camera shake.

The FreeWave system also has access to 16 channels for triggering multiple receivers and has an internal antenna that will be protected from any accidental damage. Multiple features are available for shooting, such as a four-second delay as well as multi-exposure and long exposure modes. The device also has a dual function release, enabling focus on half press and triggering the shutter release on a full press. Additionally, it has LED indicators to confirm pre-focus and exposure while in wireless mode and the receiver and transmitter each run on two AAA batteries.

    Vello RWII-C reviews

FreeWave Plus Wireless Remote Shutter Release for Canon is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 444.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Shutter Release OK, 4 stars for one reason. This release will not work if you have your camera set up for back-button focus (as I do). So for the amount of time I plan on using this I will toggle Back button off. Your camera shutter release default is to half press for focus and full press for shutter release, this is the mode your camera MUST be in to use this product. That said this is the best aftermarket wireless release out there, period. The range is accurate and multi function works great. I'm sure there are purist who will scream "Only use Canon" and that's fine. I have both and I will tell you from experience the Vello outperforms the Canon wireless release on ALL aspects.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product and Great Service from Vel I am usually very lucky with most things I buy and this product is no different. I've had this for a year and it performed flawlessly when one day the remote button stuck, causing the camera to constantly focus over and over. I sent this back to Vello and they expressed that they'd not seen this happen before. Today I received a replacement from Vello (brand new in the box), and am very happy to have this remote back. Vello didn't argue warranty with me, they just wanted to know what happened and how I used the unit for R&D purposes. If they ever come out with a pro model, I'll be the first in line to purchase.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Trigger button hangs up often! I have two comments for this product. First of all, it would be great if they had the on and off button recessed. It's very hard to have it in your bag without it automatically turning itself on. Secondly the trigger button should be replaced (improved) so that is does not hang up when fired. There are times that the camera will fire over and over until I can free it in from the ON position. For problem #1 I glued a metal washer above and onto the receiver to essentially protect and recess the on button. Problem solved!! I wish there was a fix for the trigger button well. For the price it's a hard piece to beat. Beware that the battery cover does not stay on very well either.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Well worth the money I have only had it a couple weeks and it has done all I have asked asked of it. I use it to set up my camera only a few feet from a bird feeding area while I set 30 or more feet away, when a bird comes into the area I want, I just press the button. Very simple to use and quick to set up and operate.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Week of Use Review One, of course, needs time to dedicate to the learning curve & the curve is small. Used with 50mm 1.8f Canon lens & 70-200mm L at this point. The Vello & 50mm didn't work well in low light but that was a test. By adding more light, they worked in tandem. I could have manually focused beforehand & then incorporated the Vello. The 200 & Vello worked very well. Impressed with the Vello very much. Why I waited a year... This product offers many freedoms & performs very, very well. I often find myself planning my next shoot using it. You should find yourself using your camera more with this unit & enjoying Photography much more.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Mostly good I really like this unit as well as the ShutterBoss II I own. The only downside I've found so far to this and the ShutterBoss is that "Burst Mode" is limited to 3 shots that are timed by the FreeWave Plus, and the fps rate is pretty slow. I've tried setting the camera to Burst mode and using the FreeWave Plus in both Single Shot and Burst modes, and it always stops after 3 shots taken at its pretty slow frame rate, regardless which of my 4 Canon pro cameras I try it on. Aside from the burst limitation, this is a nice unit. I've dropped my transmitter a couple of times without problems. As long as you understand the burst limitation, I'd definitely recommend this unit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Full featured wireless Remote I own several different remote shutter release but at last the FreeWave Plus is the last and only one I will ever need. Not only does it allow wireless shutter release but I can auto focus first and then release the shutter. I have single and multi shutter capability, four second delay function, multi-exposure and long exposure modes. Other similar units have an external antenna but this unit has a built in antenna.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from works great i do a fair amount of portrait work and you can't beat this wireless for that. also i climb quite a bit and this is a great tool for taking photos without having to try and run and get in position for a shot within 10 seconds, witch can be dangerous on uneven terrain. recently i used it for taking aurora photos at -5 the wireless attached to camera sat outside for hours no problems i highly reccomend this product. only have had it for a couple weeks not sure on durability but looks sturdy enough
