Vello RWII-N overview

  • 1Description

Trigger your camera's shutter wirelessly with the FreeWave Plus Wireless Remote Shutter Release from Vello, a lightweight remote control system that will help you avoid unwanted camera movement. This 2.4 GHz model is compatible with Nikon cameras and will work both wired and wirelessly up to 320', depending on your own needs and setup. This makes it useful for photographing wildlife or for macro and long exposures where it is necessary to eliminate any chance of camera shake.

The FreeWave system also has access to 16 channels for triggering multiple receivers and has an internal antenna that will be protected from any accidental damage. Multiple features are available for shooting, such as a four-second delay as well as multi-exposure and long exposure modes. The device also has a dual function release, enabling focus on half press and triggering the shutter release on a full press. Additionally, it has LED indicators to confirm pre-focus and exposure while in wireless mode and the receiver and transmitter each run on two AAA batteries.

    Vello RWII-N reviews

FreeWave Plus Wireless Remote Shutter Release for Nikon is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 325.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Be in Family Photos The wireless shutter release is easy to use. 1. Install two AAA batteries (provided) in the shutter release and two AAA batteries (provided) in the receiver. 2. Set the four (4) DIP switches in the shutter release and the receiver to the same code pattern, e.g. #1 up, #2 down, #3 up, & #4 down. 3. Attached receiver to camera and connect the receiver's cable to the appropriate socket on the camera body. 4. Turn on your tripod-mounted camera and you are ready to appear in your own photograph. I am looking forward to posing myself with my grandchildren and to moving out from behind the camera when I make photos of people.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from As good as any OEM unit, cheaper price I have used a variety of Vello remote releases over time as they work just as well as any of the Nikon units at a much lower price. Since my camera has many features of its own, this simple to use unit does the trick and hasn't failed once since I got it. Recently, I placed the tripod mounted camera pre focused on a section of woods to capture photographs of some small deer in Virginia. From sixty yards behind the camera I was able to shoot every shot pre focused at infinity with no problems. I depressed the button on the Vello unit 30 times and had 30 well exposed captures in the camera. What else can I say, it works.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Quite handy I have an infrared, wireless remote but it requires clear line of sight to the camera which makes it very inconvenient. The FreeWave Plus Wireless Remote Shutter Release by Vello takes that inconvenience away completely and also works from a distance, which make it really convenient to take family pictures and self portraits without having to set a time and run into position. For long exposures, especially in cold weather, it helps to setup the camera and stay in the warmth to click away. One thing I realized while still learning to set it up is that you have to have the camera and flash OFF before plugging in the cord in the camera. If the camera is ON when you plugin, it does not work. Other than that, its been a good buy so far.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Effective Remote I used a Vello wireless reomote on my Nikon D300 for 5 years and then sold it. Now with two new Nikon's (D750 & D7100)I needed a new wireless remote.Did lots of research and decided it was not necessary to spend $100 for the fancy ones with LCD screens. I use this FreeWave Plus Wireless Remote Shutter Release on both cameras. No issues.Controls are good and it does what it's suppose to. Even the unit that attaches to the camera works fine. Will be using it on vacation and will update this review if necessary. So far I love it. It's NOT flimsy and I love the fact it uses AAA batteries not the CR series. Recommended.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Follow-up to earlier RWII-N review I and numerous other users have observed that the RWII-N's receiver power switch was too easily turned on by other things in the bag. In one of those butt-of-the-hand-to-the-forehead flashes of incredible genius, I have come up with the ideal solution; ideal because a) it is free and b) it works! Simply cut off a three-inch piece of an empty toilet paper spool and squeeze the receiver into it. If having such an unprofessional-looking device in your bag offends your sensibilities then paint it. Color: your choice but I personally feel that black goes with everything.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Cool Gadget! If you are in the market for either a wireless device that allows you to be hands free for camera movement sake or simply want to take pictures of yourself (like I needed to), this product is for you. It's compact and can just about be hidden in the palm of your hand. Simple to use and a great price point for all the things it does. You can use it for single shots, delay, continuous or set it on bulb mode. Comes with 2 cable release cords to fit most cameras. I've yet to find anything wrong with it except that a couple of times when I pressed the button on the remote to take a picture, my flash went off AFTER the shutter had been released.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Remarkable product Although I am well aware of alternative products, this one suits my needs nicely. Low cost, capable of handling all my remote shutter release requirements, simple to use and takes up hardly any space in my camera bag. And on my D810, the simpler remote I use on my D7200 isn't an option - I need a wireless remote shutter release like this. I have had to make a deal with it, though - sometimes it can inhabit the flash shoe on top of the camera, but at other times my speedlight insists it owns the flash shoe. This is easily solved, by securing the remote to the tripod head some other way.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Cost effective, works as advertised (almost) For the price, the construction and materials did not surprise me. If I needed a device like this for serious professional use I'd have to seek a more robustly built option, but for my purposes it is just fine. My only real gripe is that the green light is supposed to indicate focus confirmation. This is inaccurate, it only indicates focusing taking place, but not the green focus confirmation we are accustomed to with Nikon cameras.
