Senal SMH-1000 overview

  • 1Description

The SMH-1000 Professional Field and Studio Monitor Headphones from Senal feature a classic closed-back, over-the-ear, collapsible design. With features like interchangeable cables, a refined frequency response, wire guides, superior comfort, and durable materials, the SMH-1000 is ideal for studio and field applications.

Equipped with 40mm neodymium drivers at 58 ohm impedance, the SMH-1000 headphones are designed to be loud enough when attached to low powered devices such as mobile phones and mp3 players, yet robust enough to handle studio headphone amps without distortion. The over-ear, closed-back design is intended to help block unwanted outside noise, which is useful in professional field recording and studio monitoring scenarios where isolation is critical.

The headphones are designed with an EQ curve that's been tailored for a slightly enhanced low end that allows field engineers to detect wind noise more effectively, and for studio engineers to monitor bass and sub bass frequencies. The high frequency response has been extended to accurately reproduce spatial detail. There is also a pronounced but smooth midrange that reduces ear fatigue over prolonged periods, while maintaining focus on vocal and dialogue intelligibility.

Designed for flexibility as well as great sound, the SMH-1000 makes use of twist-lock detachable cabling. There are two detachable cables included in each box that can be used interchangeably. There is a stretchable 4 to 10' coiled cable that provides better mobility and reach, that also helps prevent snags from pulling the headphones off of your head. This can be useful when navigating through gear-cluttered recording studio environments. There is also a 3' straight cable that is useful when less slack is ideal, such as when using a waist-mounted field recorder or mixer, or when using your mobile device.

The SMH-1000 has been built with convenience, practicality and comfort in mind as well. The headphones have a collapsible folding mechanism for compact storage and transport. They also have wire guides to keep the ear-cup wires from pinching. Furthermore, they are fitted with a padded headband and soft, replaceable ear cushions to maximize comfort during extended listening.

An excellent choice for commercial recording, broadcast, home studios, and live and location sound. Also great for home and portable entertainment.
Over-ear, closed-back (circumaural) stereo headphone design to help block unwanted environmental noise. Ideal for use in professional applications such as studio or field recording.
Detachable, twist-locking 10' coiled cable and 3' straight cable included. Replacement cables also available from Senal.

    Senal SMH-1000 reviews

SMH-1000 Professional Field and Studio Monitor Headphones is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 197.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from SMH-1000 Senal Headphones I have had my pair of headphones for about 2 weeks and i can't get over the quality of the sound and music you can hear through them. I also own a pair of very popular over the ear headphones, beats, however the difference sound quality is unimaginable. The Senal headphones reveal parts of the music that you might not notice before, and allow you to hear the crispness of a singers voice that no other headphones allow you to do. The headphones are light and comfortable for any size or shape head you could imagine, and they fold up into a perfect size to stick into a bag. I wouldn't trade these headphones for anything. Nothing can beat the sound, price or design.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Accurate sound Accurate sound, as noted, excellent quality, and interchangeability of cord is great. Slightly down-rated because the phones themselves are a little tough on the ears. Not sure whether it's because of excess tension on the spring steel making the structure, or inadequate padding of ear cups. Suspect it's inadequate padding, since after-market pads are also sold by B&H for $ They're ordered; but since they seem mandatory, there should at least be mention of them on the description of the having to pay shipping and endure delay to get the ear cup pads. Also might play into value, since with the added cups, the real cost is $.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very nice headphones I use the Senal SMH-1000 with a Sony PCM-M10 to check levels, and with a Panasonic HC-X900M camcorder for monitoring. They have a nice, clear, open sound and a very strong bass response. They fold up fairly compact and they come with both a straight, short cable and a curled, longer cable - great kit. I had never heard of Senal before I saw these headphones as recommended accessories on B&H's web site, but I trusted B&H's recommendation (and return policy!) and I'm very happy with the SMH-1000.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Good sound, doesn't last in field I wanted a reliable headset for monitoring in the field. This gives a good clear sound. I like the coil cable and it's ability to fold into a compact package. It is comfortable to wear with glasses. However after a few months of use, the audio started cutting in and out. At first I thought it was my camera, but then I realized it was the loose coil cable connection to the headphones. The coil cable does come out and had what I thought was a clever locking mechanism so it doesn't yank out in the field. However, I can see that after a few uses, it doesn't sit properly. So overall I give it a low rating for what I needed... which was reliability in the field. My old $ Sony headset has performed better in this regard.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Headphones - Good Value We use the SMH-1000 Senal Headphones in field production. I have used another famous brand similarly priced headphones for years. The Senal SMH 1000 was on a special sale on B & H. I watched the video demo and was impressed by the attention to fidelity detail and the the ability to change the chord from the 2 provided. (1 short and straight for personal use and the other longer and coiled for more mobility from the sound source) While we still have a pair of the more famous brand headphones, I have put the Senal in our audio kit as our primary go to headphones. 1. I really like the audio response 2. I like the detachable cable I would recommend this product

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pro quality at a reasonable price I teach film and television production to high school students and I wanted some decent quality headphones that wouldn't break the budget. These fit the bill perfectly. They have decent sound and are well designed. I also like the fact that they come with 2 detachable cables. (a short straight and longer coiled) The ability to detach at the headphones means you no longer have to throw away the headphones when you develop a short in the cable. We have only used these for a week so I can't speak to durability but they seem to be well built and should last a while.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Impressive Package Heard a lot of good stuff about SMH-1000 and it was really good timing bhphotovideo offered some very enticing freebies. Great build and materials used. Especially liked the detachable cable feature. Honestly comfortable. Stock ear pads are good but the free giveaway Auray sheep skin is a lot more plush/less hot spot which is why I bought a few more. Sound is good, there is low end probably just barely enough, mid range is alright while the highs are somewhat strident but not in a piercing way.. could depend per listener. Overall I do like the way they sound and the comfort, accessories that comes with.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very Nice, Very Comfortable These headphones produce great sound. If you're getting them for casual listening, don't expect them to be exceptionally bass-heavy like Beats or Skull Candy. I prefer these because they are clearly superior in quality and the sounds sound much more natural. They fold up really nicely and mine came with a storage bag that is perfect for carrying them around without worrying about them getting damaged, but they feel sturdy enough to be able to put in a bag with other gear without problems. I use these for monitoring my Tascam DR-40 portable audio recorder while in the field and they work great.
