B+W 66-1066117 overview

  • 1Description

The B+W 52mm XS-Pro UV Haze MRC-Nano 010M Filter is a general use, clear filter designed to absorb ultraviolet light and reduce the bluish cast of daylight. Aside from the reduction of unwanted blue casts, no additional coloration or contrast is created, and adjustments to exposure are not required while using this filter. To prevent internal ghosting and reflections while providing over 99.8% light transmission, each glass surface includes multiple layers of anti-reflection coating. This Multi-Resistant Coating (MRC) also offers greater protection to the filter substrate and helps it to stay clean for longer than with uncoated filters. The Nano coating associated with XS-Pro filters provides an additional eighth layer over the MRC, resulting in an improved beading effect when in contact with water for greater cleaning efficiency.

B+W filters are constructed from Schott glass for increased optical clarity and color fidelity. This filter features a thin brass filter ring to minimize the potential for vignetting while enhancing durability and jamming prevention. To further reduce the possibility of vignetting when this filter is in use, the filter ring's outside diameter is slightly larger than the actual thread size. This may prevent the use of some lens manufacturer bayonet hoods.

This UV Haze filter is also useful as a general protective filter to leave on lenses at all times. Such filters help to reduce dust and moisture from reaching your front lens element and provide additional protection in case of drops or situations where scratching could occur.

    B+W 66-1066117 reviews

    52mm XS-Pro UV Haze MRC-Nano 010M Filter is rated 4.9 out of 5 by 57.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from One of the Top Best UV filters Over the years I've used many top quality UV filters but I like this B+W Nano version very much ,I tested it on Nikon 28mm 2.8 AF-D at a certain place where the lens gives very slight ghosting ,even used with Hoya or Heliopan filters, but when I used this B+W filter there was no ghosting ! Now , let me be very clear that the ghosting was very very low and minor not big huge blobs , and UV filters cannot correct that, but I think it is a very big improvement that this filter can fix minor problems and the difference is very clear in some really harsh light n environments. I highly recommend it ,it's very well built ,a great German product and topnotch glass. And as I'm writing this ,I'm going to order 2 more :) cheers !

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best UV Filters Money Can Buy The B+W XS-Pro UV Haze MRC-Nano 010M Filters are honestly the only UV filters I buy anymore. I've tried others, but I ultimately put one of these on every lens I own. The Schott glass and brass filter ring construction is mechanically unrivaled and optically perfect. the MRC-Nano coating resists smudging and other contamination of the filter and makes cleaning beyond easy. I have never observed any flaring or other artifacts of direct sunlight in my images that can be attributed to this filter; it never does anything but improve my lenses' performance in direct sunlight, even without a hood. I have never noticed any vignetting from the brass ring, even on the widest of lenses. I would highly recommend these filters in any size. They are more than worth the extra money.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Only filter needed for DSLRs Great filter for general protective purposes. I keep it on all the time on my Nikon 18-55 mm kit lens, even when I'm not using that lens. However, I actually bought it for the excellent 35 mm prime lens, which I plan to buy soon. I use Nikon's lens cap in front of the filter during lens storage but don't even bother with a cap when I am out shooting. I feel very confident about the filter's ability to protect the front lens elements. The brass ring feels solid and the knurls provide a lot of grip without needing to apply a lot of pressure when attaching the filter. Do not bother with lesser brands and aluminium rings.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Well made high quality filter This is a well made B+W product. I use it on my Canon 60 mm 2.8 Macro lens on my Canon T3i when I happen to be takiing landscape shotw with it. The filter does see throug haze a bit on long distance landscape shots. Of course it also provides protection for the lens. In the limited with/without testing I have done it appears to very slightly decrese sharpness when I look at a raw image at 200X with the Canon DPP software. This lens does not have IS so I need to repeat the tests on a tripod. In a test I found, conducted in Europe, this filter did not perform as well as the Hoya Pro 1 Digital UV. This Nano has an extra hard coating and perhaps that degrades the optics a bit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from B+W / Unbelievable I use this filter constantly on my Lumix G5. It never comes off the lens. The quality of the picture is much better with this filter. The glass in the B + W Lens is of high quality. B + W are the only lens filters I will purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It's round, It's glass Joking aside, this is a great filter. I always put a UV filter on my lenses, right out of the box. It's a transparent lens cap. The front element stays pristine, and the filter takes the abuse. Why replace a damaged front element when you can replace a damaged filter instead? The B+W filters, though, are difficult to damage. they clean up quickly, and are optically excellent. Spend a bit more up front, get a better piece of glass to shoot through that will last longer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Top quality product Disclaimer: Ever since I got my first SLR in the 1980's, I followed the conventional wisdom of putting a UV filter on the front of an expensive lens. And the lenses were a lot less expensive thirty years ago! Anyway, I don't want to get into the conversation about whether or not you should put a protective filter on your lens. I'm not an expert in this area, I just do what I want to do. So my review is addressed to those who feel likewise. Here it is:As far as I can tell, all the B+W XS-Pro 010M UV Haze filters are identical, except for the size. So this review could be considered applicable to this filter in all sizes. And I own this filter in sizes ranging from 52mm to 86mm (darn that one is expensive). In all I have 10 or 12 of these. I also have some other UV filters made by Canon and Hoya. But I don't use those, I give them away to my friends who are too cheap to buy good ones. There is no image degradation from this filter. I'm sure you can look up the statistics and charts if you want to. I don't have time for that. I do know that outdoor photos in bright sunlight are better with the UV filter on the lens, because the UV light affects the color balance and EV. Indoors, flash, and indirect light, twilight, golden hour, etc., there is no negative effect on the image from having this filter on your lens.I would rather replace a $50 filter than a $3000 lens. I do a lot of nature photography, and inevitably, you are going to get tree branches, water, mud, or whatever on the front of your lens. The multicoated lenses like the ones B+W makes are known for being difficult to clean. I have found that the extra Nano coating on this lens makes it significantly easier to clean. It's not a dirt magnet like some multicoated lenses. It behaves more like smooth glass - small particles don't stick, they can just be blown off with an air blower. Things like dirt, smudges, fingerprints etc. come off a lot easier from the Nano lens than the ones without this extra coating. So I am quite willing to pay the extra cost for the Nano lens, compared to the B+W 010M filter without this extra coating. Ten or twenty dollars is soon forgotten with a filter than you will use for the rest of your photography career. My technique for cleaning dirt of the front of the lens (i.e. the B+W filter) is to spray it with Tiffen lens cleaner and wipe in a circular motion with a clean microfiber cloth. If it's not perfect when I finish, I redo the entire process again. That works for me - your technique may differ. The important thing is that the dirt doesn't stick like glue to the filter, it comes off easily, they way it would with uncoated glass. So I give the B+W XS-Pro UV Haze MRC-Nano 010M Filter five stars. The only negative is the price. But you know what they say - the quality is remembered long after the price is forgotten.I hope someone finds this helpful. Nobody gave me anything or paid me anything. I paid a small fortune to buy these filters. Cheers.
