B+W 66-1066111 Overview

  • 1Description

The B+W 77mm XS-Pro Clear MRC-Nano 007 Filter is a simple, clear filter with a 1x filter factor and is designed to provide general protection for your lens. This optically clear filter does not affect overall image quality while helping to reduce dust, scratches, moisture, and other elements from damaging your lens. To prevent internal ghosting and reflections while providing over 99.8% light transmission, each glass surface includes multiple layers of anti-reflection coating. This Multi-Resistant Coating (MRC) also offers greater protection to the filter substrate and helps it to stay clean for longer than with uncoated filters. The Nano coating associated with XS-Pro filters provides an additional eighth layer over the MRC, resulting in an improved beading effect when in contact with water for greater cleaning efficiency.

B+W filters are constructed from Schott glass for increased optical clarity and color fidelity. This filter features a thin brass filter ring to minimize the potential for vignetting while enhancing durability and jamming prevention. To further reduce the possibility of vignetting while using this filter, the filter ring's outside diameter is slightly larger than the actual thread size. This may prevent the use of some lens manufacturer bayonet hoods.

    77mm XS-Pro Clear MRC-Nano 007 Filter is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 187.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Filter No more vignetting on my 24mm lens. Nice and clear. Very low profile. Easy to clean. Most people buy a UV filter and never question why? If you own a digital camera you already have a UV filter. It's over the sensor. Why filter twice. A UV filter will also cause a color shift. Try it for yourself. Take a picture with and without a UV filter. A clear filter is the way to go. I use it along the Oregon coast to protect my lens from salt spray. I recommend this filter to all of my photo tour participants. It protects the lens quite well.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Threaded filter locking scratched my lens This filter using a threaded method to hold the filter glass to the front and back metal retaining rings. For some reason the rings became loose. This allowed the filter glass to rub against the front of my lens, scratching the lens coating. When I noticed it there was overlapping of a fuzzy section in the center that appeared on both the filter and the lens. If you do purchase this filter, be sure to tighten the threads so the filter glass is securely locked between the metal rings. It is worthwhile to check regularly how tight the filter glass is held between the rings. I suspect putting a lens cap on and off may loosen the retaining rings.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Superb Quality I immediately put this filter on my Sigma 50mm Art as they were removed from the box. The filter is great because it doesn't compromise the image quality one bit. The coating makes it easy to blow off any dust or debris so I don't have to clean it with a cloth. Great German quality glass that keeps my lens clean so I don't have to clean it. Yes, it's pricey but worth it. Screwing a filter on can be challenging because of the fine thread. I found that screwing the filter backwards at first helps seat the threads against the lens before finding the sweet spot and screwing it onto the lens. This helps minimize the chance of cross-threading the filter on to the lens.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very happy with the purchase There has been long and heated debates of filter v. non-filter, but I chose to go with a filter because I shoot a lot outdoors at the beach where it can be pretty windy and at sporting events sitting on the sidelines where you can easily get run over with all the action. For me, the filter is an extra level of protection and the reason I chose the 007 was because of the high-quality coating and brass ring. Shooting with a modern DSLR (Canon 5Dm3) negates the need with going to a UV filter. The Nano-007 is slim but it can still fit my center-pinch lense cap with no issues. The price is a bit steep, but for most things optical, you get what you pay for.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Does What It Is Supposed To Do Some photographers never use filters. Some do. I choose to protect my lens investment, but I'm also keenly aware that I don't want to put cheap glass in front of a very expensive lens - it ruins the purpose by degrading the image quality before the lens ever even receives the light. I've been using B+W filters for a long time, but primarily their UV filters. This is the first time I used a clear filter from them, and it has been working extremely well. I see no degradation in image quality (testing with the filter and with it off). It's just there, clear and doing it's job of protecting the lens and providing a safe and strong surface to clean off dust/water drops/etc, without adding flare or otherwise negatively affecting the image. Exactly what I wanted it to do.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Needed clear glass filter for Canon EF 2.8 70-200 lens First, for those who don't know, this lens is $2199 list. Do I want to protect it? Yes. Do I want to put blurry glass in front of it? Absolutely not. I paid a fortune in my dollars for the clarity of one of the best lenses ever made. So what to do? Research. First thing I discovered is that UV filtration has been a bogus solution. Lens sellers shouldn't be trying to quickly add on a UV filter for protection. They are wrong. I want the light I shoot to be the light I get. Clear glass. How clear? Perfectly. So I relied on reviews, both review reviews and customer. Ended up, to keep this simple, with this clear filter. Several reviews highly praised the quality of the German Schoat, or however you spell it, clear glass.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from vingeting gone and no light lost B+W makes a superb protective filter. Switched to a full frame camera and the old filter was vignetting at the wide end (24 mm) of my walking around lens. This filter takes care of that issue and the lens cap and lens hood still work. And B&H continues to provide fantastic customer service.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from 77mm XS-Pro Clear MRC-Nano 007 I found that I needed this on my Canon 35-16mm I was having vineting or shadow problems caused by a standard Filter. The filter is costly but does clean a bit more easy than a standard filer. Primarily I just want to protect the lens itself with losing Image Quality and this does it.
