The GPAC502 Adjustable Multi Angle Column from Benro is an aluminum center column adapter that allows the center column to be adjusted to nearly any angle. It can go from an upright vertical position to a horizontal position, a down-low vertical position, or anything in between. One end of the center column has a 3/8"-16 mount for use with most tripod heads, and the other end features a sandbag or ballast slot. An object can be hung at the end to enhance balance and stability. The center column also is capable of panoramic photography. Loosen the panoramic lock knob to enable rotation and panoramic 360-degree photography. The built-in quick release plate of the GPAC502 is designed with an Arca-type mount that can be used with compatible heads. Two anti-slip studs are on the bottom of the plate. Also, on the bottom of the plate are additional 1/4"-20 and 3/8"-16 mounting points, allowing it to be mounted to a video quick release plate or a number of other options.

Sturdy column
Got this column to add to my Robus tripod for macro work. Angles are in fixed 15 degree increments, so not totally fluid adjustments there, though no slippage or backlash. The angle bracket itself angles the column over the base plate which limits the total throw quite a bit, particularly if not fully extended. Also, the base plate is solid (with mounting screw) so the column cannot be used as a standard, adjustable center column. It has to remain fully extended if in the 180-degree position. There is a safety lock mechanism at one end that prevents the column from slipping completely out of the lock-collar and a push-button mechanism to disable this so you can remove the column from the collar. This mechanism does not work as intended and you have to screw it out to remove column from collar. A minor nuisance. Overall, a sturdy and functional attachment at a reasonable price.
Love it, but could use some tweaks
The GPAC 502 is a great addition to my arsenal. It feels well made and is super easy to use. You can add system go couplers (I plan to) and it becomes a multi use arm. It can mount either directly to your tripod base but is also arca Swiss compatible (a bit more on that in a moment) so it can be used several different ways. A few things to consider: The arca Swiss: if you think youâd like to use it with the Benro geared head, donât. The arca plate on the Benro geared head has a notch at the back that is exactly the same size as the plate on the GPAC 502 base. I tried it and thought I had it locked in and when I let go of my camera the whole arm fell out of the geared head with my camera attached. Upon examination, that notch is the culprit: it canât lock in. Luckily there was no damage done other than a few things falling off the table. With ball heads itâs great, but make sure your ball is solidly locked. With the arm fully extended and loaded with a body and lens it could be enough weight to sag. Be sure to throw some weight on the back end if you have the arm fully extended to act as a counter balance. Thereâs a notch there specifically for that purpose. It would be really nice if: the arm length adjustment was geared. Itâs a bit of a faff to lengthen or shorten the arm with the camera on it. A geared knob would solve that. The arm is adjustable in 15 degree increments that lock in place with teeth. Again- gears would make this adjustment more fluid and easier to make. As would indicators on the side that show the angle. That being said, those would definitely add to cost, and for under $70 it is a great deal on a solid piece of gear.
