This is my first time purchasing and owning a member of the MPC family. I am involved with music and have always been around people using dawless setups, but the workflow was something that was intimidating. I was looking for something to turn on, spitball ideas and then start to refine. I also wanted something to grow into where experience could be used on other devices or if and when I upgrade to something else. For me once getting the MPC sample and watching a few online tutorials , I was simply able to create something. The included sample packs are great , but I knew I would be sampling from my record collection , so I purchased a 512GB microsd card. For the memory card to show up I had to update the firmware. Once that was done you can place the MPC sample into controller mode and when connected to PC via usb you can transfer to/from the external memory card. This has proven useful when transferring record samples or collaborative projects from other people. Being able to transfer and have options truly lets the portability shine. In terms of portability it is light weight, has the option to charge with a power bank , the internal speaker is loud enough , but can always rock headphones. The pads are responsive and once I got the hang of initial workflow I was zooming through steps. For me the price point and capabilities of the device were why I bought it. My main purpose was to create on the fly and go over with vocals to be able to send as a rough idea to someone or save as an idea to come back to and refine later. This device has met my reasons for buying. I can’t give five stars because I am not fluid enough with it to identify major cons , not having much dawless experience.

Checks all the boxes (mostly)

If you own the EP-133 (and siblings), a 404SX and newer, or even an MPC Live or One, you may think you're good. BUT...here's what makes the MPC Sample so singular, in my eyes... 1. Rechargable battery. 2. Decent built in speaker. 3. Good built in micrphone. 4. Classic MPC pads. 5. USB-C class compliant sampling, audio routing, midi, etc. 6. SIMPLE interface, and not a ton of distractions/features that are complicated. It does the minimum that you'd expect of a sampler, and it does it extremely well. The only gripe I have is that the effects routing/set ups are no where near as good as the EP-133, and DEFINITELY not as good as ANY of the Roland samplers. BUT- hey- "maybe in a future firmware update?" Filters are top notch tho. Anyway, if you can get one, do it.
