The STORM 700x Tunable White LED Monolight arrives as Aputure's latest point-source LED, offering a tunable-white engine that provides high output in a more compact form factor. Aputure developed the STORM 700x upon similar characteristics of the STORM 1200x, XT52, and 400x—keeping the brand's proprietary and innovative BLAIR chipset. Meaning not only spectral quality, but superior accuracy in white light reproduction. It combines 700W with smooth dimming technology, multiple control methods, a convenient ProLock Bowens accessory mount, a smart cooling system, and finally, a robust IP65-rated construction for high-end set work under any circumstance. A great lighting solution for filmmakers, cinematographers, and lighting professionals in need of high output and precision white light color performance in a weather-resistant body. The STORM 700x ships with a 35° reflector, a control box, a clamp, head and power cables, and a soft rolling case that packs it all.

BLAIR Light Engine
Aputure keeps its breakthrough BLAIR chipset that features blue, lime, amber, indigo, and red LED emitters to deliver higher brightness levels and color accuracy levels. With over 70% coverage of the Rec. 2020 color gamut, the STORM 700x is rated 95 for both CRI and TLCI standards. The light also scores an 87 SSI rating at both 3200 and 5600K, as well as TM-30 ratings at Rf 95 and Rg 100, while its advanced five-diode architecture improves the light's color-matching abilities, resulting in a greater range of CCT than traditional bi-color fixtures.
Unmatched Flexibility
The full CCT range of 2500 to 10,000K is enhanced with green-magenta color correction for advanced white-point control. The ±G 100% ASC MITC range green-magenta color correction seamlessly integrate the fixture in mixed-lighting environments. The unit's daylight 5600K output reaches 18,670 lux at 9.8' when used with the included 35° reflector. Users can opt for max and constant output modes, in addition to high-speed photography, lead-follow, and studio modes.
Advanced Control
The STORM 700x comes with a control box that enables smooth dimming and advanced local control. Stepless dimming is available from 0.1 to 100% with four dimming curves: linear, exponential, logarithmic, and S-shaped. Experience wired and wireless control options to find a variety of protocols: DMX, RDM, CRMX, and app control via Bluetooth and the Sidus Link and Sidus Link Pro apps. In terms of DMX, 12 DMX control profiles enable multiple DMX dimming modes and customizable DMX signal loss behaviors. These features seamlessly integrate the fixture into existing lighting workflows, providing technicians and programmers with reliable control over its operation.
Compact Robust Design
The light's rugged construction is IP65 rated for dust and weather resistance, making it suitable for use in even the most demanding environments. To effectively manage heat dissipation, the STORM 700x has an active air fan cooling system with four modes: smart, high, medium, and silent. The light also features a ProLock Bowens accessory mount, which makes the STORM 700x compatible with a wide range of optional modifiers. It allows for a more secure and optically aligned modifier accessory connection. The light runs on AC power using its included 19.6' long power cable at a standard 100-240V operating voltage.
Additional Details
Lighting effects are paparazzi, fireworks, flickering bulb, cannon, lightning, TV,
pulse, flash, explosion, flame, and 10 savable presets. The STORM 700x is a reliable workhorse for commercial shoots, interviews, and mid-to-large-scale productions. It has a native COB beam angle of 58°, including a 35° reflector, but is also compatible with an optional 25° one. The 19.8 x 10.8 x 10.7" lamp head with yoke weighs 11.35 lb, while the control box weighs 9 lb. To conclude, batch firmware updates are possible via Sidus Link, Sidus Link Pro, or USB-A.

Aputure STORM 700x Reviews
1200X on a baby pin

I loathe combo stands for interior work. The footprint is so big that there's little room for anything else. Office conference room? Forget it! The 700X can mount on a baby stand which means there's a lot of flexibility on the style of stand to use. The 1200X came first, and folks love it for fighting the sun mounted to a combo stand. But for a single person interview the 700X works just fine against a window. Compare this to any STORM light. They're all so similar in terms of quality and quirks.
My least favorite quirk is the fan behavior. When it changes speed in smart mode it's quite loud and distracting. I tend to keep my STORM lights at medium speed unless they're running at very low intensity.
But I love the build, the quality/accuracy of the light color, and the performance with the CF10 fresnel. It all fits in one case too. There are cheaper high-output lights these days, but I don't trust any of them with accuracy like I do with the STORM series. I upgraded to this from my 600X-- worth it if you care about (limited) color and accuracy!

It works great and is a steal for the money. I bought 2 and plan to bring them on almost every shoot.

Can the amaran Octa Dome 90 (3') softbox be used with this light? It's listed as compatible but also says a 600W max.
Asked by: James
The amaran Octa Dome 90 softbox is rated for up to 600 W, so using it with the Aputure 700X exceeds the manufacturer’s recommended limit. It will work, but doing so could risk heat buildup or stress on the softbox, so a higher‐rated modifier is safer.

With this light’s narrower beam angle, does it cause hotspots on softboxes like the Light Dome or SmallRig RA-D120?
Asked by: Ethan
The previous answer is incorrect. The bare COB has a 58 degree beam angle. Source: Aputure website spec page. You can expect a hot spot in softboxes that lack an inner baffle or beauty dish.

How is its power compared to Nanlite Forza 720?
Asked by: Alfonso
The power of the Aputure STORM 700x Tunable White LED Monolight compared to the Nanlite Forza 720B will vary, depending of the distance at which the measurement is made, whether a reflector is used, and the type of fall-off desired. In different scenarios, each light has an advantage in the overall light output.

Does this entire kit (barn doors, fernel, and skid plate) fit in the case with the light or will they need to be stored apart?
Asked by: Jordan
For the Aputure STORM 700x Tunable White LED Monolight (Cine Kit), each of the included items will come with its own case except for the Aputure Skid for STORM 700x. The Aputure STORM 700x Tunable White LED Monolight comes with a rolling case, and the Aputure CF10 Fresnel & Barndoors Kit comes with a soft case (no wheels).
