The Sachtler Ace Fluid Head with 2-Stage Aluminum Tripod & On-Ground Spreader is a full tripod system for videographers who use HDSLR cameras and smaller camcorders. Whether you're doing documentaries, ENG, weddings, corporate videos, or any other type of projects with a smaller camera, the Ace system matches your needs, enabling broadcast-style performance with lightweight components. With its light weight, compact size, and floor spreader, this system is perfect for projects that involve multiple setup changes on level surfaces.

With a payload up to 8.8 lb, the Ace fluid head features five steps of counterbalance as well as a plate that features a 4.1" range of adjustment, so you can balance your small camera to a very precise degree. Designed by Sachtler engineers for the Ace head, the SA drag system enables smooth, precise panning and tilting via the head's pan bar, with three grades of drag in both the horizontal and vertical dimensions, plus the option of zero drag. The head's tilt range is +90° to -75°.

The tripod mounts the head via its 75mm bowl. With the Ace head attached, the two-stage aluminum model reaches a maximum height of 68.1" for a comfortable working height for almost all users. Also included is an on-ground spreader, model SP 75, which adds to the stability of the system when you're operating on a level surface. The spreader features telescopic arms to accommodate different tripod heights.

SA Drag for Perfect Performance
For the Ace head, Sachtler engineers developed a patented drag, SA (synchronized actuated) drag, which guarantees accuracy and repeatability at a remarkable price. With three vertical and three horizontal grades of drag, SA drag enables fine adjustments for precise panning and tilting. Damping can also be completely deactivated
Lightweight Material
Weighing just 3.7 lb on its own, the Ace head is composed of a glass fiber-reinforced composite material, which keeps the head especially light and offers a comfortable, non-slip surface feel. The head enables camera operators to work extremely intuitively and professionally – and with the system's light weight and compact size, operators will want to take Ace on the go
Familiar Sachtler Features
The Ace head reflects Sachtler's 50 years of developing camera support products, which is evident in such practical features as the Ace camera plate's parking position for spare camera screws and the long 4.1" sliding range. The plate comes with a 1/4"-20 screw and a video pin
Broadcast Feel for Smaller Cameras
With its payload range of 0-8.8 lb, Ace is ideal for smaller HD & HDV camcorders as well as HDSLR cameras. The five-step counterbalance makes it easy to achieve proper balance quickly

Ace Fluid Head with 2-Stage Aluminum Tripod & On-Ground Spreader is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 27.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from The best system This head is the best head for working in winter even -40C. We have -47C in Siberia, Russia. Other heads are not working properly in such conditions. The head is light and tripod also not heavy. Tripod is very comfortable and compact because of 2-stage. System has many tunings and any camera - light or heavy - will feel like as a single whole, as a unit with this system and cameraman will think only about creative side of his work. Thank You and sorry for my english. Stanislav from Siberia.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Like some features - don't like others Only had a chance to use it once. Very smooth fluid head. Stable when setup. Cheap ground spreader - lightweight plastic - action is not smooth - sorta of a pain to work with. Have used other more expensive Sachtler tripods and the ground spreader was more substantial and easier to work with. So I have mixed feelings - hopefully over time it will become more natural to work with. Jury is still out on whether I'd recommend this to others.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Ace Is Smooth Action I ordered a $200 tripod from B&H and realized at first use that it was a little too flimsy for my Sony HXR-NX5U NXCAM especially for wedding videography that demands lots of pans and tilts. So I continued searching and saw that Sachtler had come out with a tripod for under $$and called it the ACE! That intrigued me since I had used Sachtlers before and I know they're high end tripods. But I certainly couldn't afford a high end $2000 tripod! But B&H was kind enough for me to return the $200 tripod and credit it toward my new ACE!The ACE is very light, but it is not flimsy! The ACE was rated for 8lbs and my Sony HXR-NX5U NXCAM is 5lbs. They work perfectly together. The pan and tilt action is totally smooth. The is one thing that bothers me - sound transfer. I am not sure if it's a design flaw in the tripod plate. The camera sits flat on the 5.5 inch long plate and connects it solidly to the tripod head and gives you plenty of forward and backward space to balance your camera. And there are 4 rubber cushions on the top of the plate. Yet, when I use the onboard shotgun microphone, the sound from me holding the handle and steadying the tripod is very audible and transfers to my recording. When I use the built-in microphone, the sound is less audible.I figure there might be too much contact with the camera and the tripod plate. Remember the tripod plates with the older cameras which had the inverted U design for shoulder shots? Those were connected to the tripod plate at the front and back end and never had that issue. It was minimal contact.I think it's an engineering thing - if you look at the way an overpass on the highway sits on the pillars - it's connected to a small block which minimizes load transfer.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Well built for the price We have a couple of higher end Sachtler tripods and needed another, but didn't want to shell out $. This one was nearly as nice for a third of the price. Components are a little cheaper, but I really can't tell much difference beyond that.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Thrilled with this Sachtler I've used this tripod on a couple of doc shoots since purchasing it and have been thrilled with it! For the price, it's extremely smooth, relatively light, and quick/easy/intuitive to set up. Overall, awesome performance for the price.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Legs could be better The head is great. DEFINITELY outperforms all other tripods heads in this price range. Big CON is that the level bubble seems slightly untrustworthy. Usually end up leveling by eye. The legs suck. I usually need to utilize a counterweight or sandbag when doing camera movements because they are to flimsy.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good set of sticks for the price I work for a government agency which uses P2 for acquisition. I needed a new set of sticks and since I have HPX 170 for my primary camera, I bought one of these. I don't use sticks very often, but these are great when i need them (for interviews and the like).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The best tripod in the world The drags are smooth. No bumps or backlash or slop. The locks work. The counterbalance works perfectly. The Balance plate and camera attach screw have enormous travel to balance any configuration. Absolutely fantastic reguardless of price.
