The Tripod Collar A (White) for Canon 200mm f/2.8, 70-200mm f/4 & 400mm f/5.6 Lenses from Vello is designed for use with the Canon 200mm f/2.8L II, 70-200mm f/4L (IS and non-IS versions) and 400mm f/5.6L lenses. The ring makes rotating your lens easier, and the built-in tripod collar improves lens balance by screwing into the tripod mount. This collar has vertical alignment marks for quickly changing the orientation from horizontal to vertical. Using the included bushing, either a 3/8" or a 1/4" tripod mount can used.

Improves Lens Balance
The ring secures your lens to the camera's tripod.
Gives Your Camera Setup Better Balance
The ring adds stability to your camera and lens. Due to its weight, when the lens is mounted with a camera on a tripod, the center of gravity is shifted to the lens. The ring attaches to the tripod and can be shifted to adjust the balance.
Having the camera secured with a ring around the lens makes it possible to rotate the lens between landscape and portrait modes without removing the camera from the tripod. The friction thumbscrews can then be tightened to secure the camera in the desired position. When not needed, the ring can be rotated to an out of the way position.
Thumbscrews Tighten And Loosen Ring
Having thumbscrews control the ring makes it easy to adjust the tripod ring on the go.

    Vello TC-AW reviews

    Tripod Collar A (White) for Canon 200mm f/2.8, 70-200mm f/4 & 400mm f/5.6 is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 116.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Vello Tripod Collar U gotta be kidding - same quality of material & finish as the OEM product at a third of the cost! One reviewer said the Vello can't be attached when the lens is on the body; which was an incorrect observation. The Vello opens fully, just like the OEM ring. The only difference between the two is the OEM product has a spring loaded safety catch that prevents the ring from opening, even when the tightening bolt is fully unscrewed out of the socket. The Vello doesn't have that safety - unscrew the bolt all the way out and the ring opens.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Does the job I haven't seen the Canon collar, so I don't have a means of comparison. On its own, it does the job. It securely holds my 70-200 f/4 with no wiggle. The locking nut could feel a bit smoother, but overall quality is good. From what I've read, the Canon has a safety catch to prevent the ring from completely opening up. That's nice, but I think a highly unlikely scenario (unless you're a world-class klutz). I see no benefit in spending the extra $100 for the Canon version.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Perfect in a Crisis Pro: Bargain priced in comparison with the Canon product Con: The material inside the ring isn't very thick, and could eventually scratch the lens body I was in NYC for Labor Day weekend 2017, and needed to use a tripod with my 5DM3 and 70-200 f/4. I realized on Saturday night that I'd left my Canon collar at home, a couple hundred miles away. Sunday morning I went to B&H, worked with one of the sales people, and eventually purchased the Vello collar. The sales person helped make sure it would actually work with my camera - it did! - and the next day I used it without any problems! It's a good collar, not great, but certainly does its job in a crisis. (Crisis is relative here.) While not as refined as the Canon collar, it's an otherwise decent product.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Kind of cheap ... I use it to mount my 70-200 f/4 lens to a tripod. It's secure enough and the price is excellent but it doesn't have the added safetly feature of the lock on the Canon original.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from It may not be from Canon I have installed this on a Canon 70-200 mm f/4 L series lens, and it works just fine for what I need. I have the real Canon collar that came on the 400 mm f/5.6 L series lens, and in use, there isn't much difference between the two. When you take into account how much more the Canon version is than the Vello, I'd say that the Vello is an excellent choice. The Canon version has a safety catch that the Vello lacks, and I had to clean the paint off from and out of the threads of the thumbscrew of the Vello collar to get it the turn as freely as I wanted, but that's minor compared to the cost savings. I'm very pleased with the Vello unit so far, I probably should give it a five star rating, but it isn't quite as smooth as the Canon unit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great! An equal to the Canon. Well made from aluminum and fits perfectly. Stabile with no wobble.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Just what you need! This is a simple accessory and, at about 1/3 of the OEM price, you can't go wrong! It is well made, fits my lens perfectly and performs as expected. The only issue with my example has also been noted by other reviewers - it is difficult to tighten the collar enough so that the lens does not rotate unintentionally. This is not a significant problem for me and I have fixed it by adding a few tape strips on the collar lining. Now, with a little twist of the knob, it allows the lens to rotate freely when needed and tightens securely when not. Cant' beat this piece of kit for the price!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from High quality alternative I bought this for my Canon 70-200 F4L (non-IS). Using a tripod/monopod is a necessity for what I shoot. Hard to believe Canon doesn't include one of these with purchase of lens. Even harder to believe they want@ for their version of this tripod collar. The Vello collar is exactly what I was hoping for. It fits and functions perfectly. Color matches lens almost perfectly. I am very glad I gave this product a try, compared to spending alot more money on a genuine Canon collar. Very satisfied with Vello collar.
