Switronix TorchLED Bolt Overview

  • 1Description

The Switronix TorchLED Bolt On-Camera LED Light is a 200W-equivalent light for attaching to the top of your camera – or (likely via an adapter) to a light stand for use as a "sun gun" on a set or on location. The 16-LED light is powerful enough to use as a fill light outdoors. The TorchLED features a brightness and throw (40-50') that put it in the range of halogen lights.

If it has a free PowerTap output, you can use your existing 14.4V DC brick-style battery for powering this light – a PowerTap cable is included. Alternatively, the TorchLED Bolt accepts a Sony L-Series-style battery to supply the needed power. Though it puts out the equivalent of 200W incandescent light, it draws just 22W at maximum light output. Illumination is 1800 lux at 3200K at 3.3 ft distance.

TorchLED Bolt features two knobs for controlling the 5-100% dimming of 3000K light and 6000K light. Once optimal color temperature is set, the on/off switch can be used to preserve the mixture of the two color-temperature sources
Comes with a carrying case, a snap-on filter holder, and one diffusion gel

    Switronix TorchLED Bolt Reviews

TorchLED Bolt On-Camera LED Light is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 72.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Own two Have used these for interviews in tight space environments like offices and conference rooms. Really nice not to worry about AC cords and heat. Having the ability to adjust the Bolt's light temperature to conform to a room's temp with windows is a great feature. Their size are unobtrusive and the throw is impressive. Many many times I'm a one-man production crew and can carry 2 of these in an over the shoulder hard case. You will need a solid mount with these and not the cheap swivel mounts that are worthless in my eyes. Manfrotto has a great mount B&H # MA492LCD Mfr# 492LCD that I use with light stands. Used these in an office just the other day and the client walked up to them and was impressed by their size and efficiency. Step up to the Bolts, you won't be sorry.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Powerful light I am using this mostly for Macro on table photography. I also will use it for the small amount of video work I do. I like the light and purchased this after buying a small Switronix light. I have to say the one thing I am disappointed with is the supplied power cord. The instructions to what it fits is not clear and the batteries that one can plug into are not that common. I called the company and they told me this power connection was the industry standard. I I am using a power supply and have not purchased the 3rd alternative (sony battery or its generic) as of yet. The power supply choices are why i gave it 4 rather than 5 stars

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great LED Video Light for Photographers! I'll start off with a caveat:Do NOT use this light with a Pearstone F550 battery (sold and recommended by BH Photo). The light will turn on and off spontaneously and you'll be furious. I've tried two of these batteries and I'm now using a SONY NP-F570 with great success. On to the review: this is one of the brightest and most flexible LED video lights I've ever come across. It is significantly (3-4 times) brighter than similarly sized units you'll find for sale on @. It's a highly effective product for photography (and I'm assuming videography as well). You'll find two different color dependent dimmer knobs on the light - one for warm light and one for cool light. It's also possible to mix them together as well as to turn them both on to the maximum setting to get the brightest light output.Give it a try - you'll love it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect light for anyone wanting dtap I bought this light for my sony ex3 after looking at all the led panel type lights. I wanted a dtap capable light to use my idx batteries I have for the camera. Turns out this light is the only one in this price range that can use dtap without a buying a bunch of extras cables or converters. Its performance is incredible. I can run the light and cam on one idx battery for 4.5 hours! The bolt's light throw is about 30 feet. The ability to dim between color temps is HUGE! I used the 5600 to light and the 3200 to warm the subject up. I compared side by side with a flolight256. The bolt killed it in every way.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Incredible throw for an LED I used this light on set this weekend for shooting a short film, and I found a use for it on nearly every shot. This light is amazing: a throw more than double my old LitePanel MicroPro; with the option to go all daylight or all tungsten or user-selected mix of both. So you dial in any color temp. But most incredible? The battery lasts FOREVER. I used it all day (switching it off between scenes, of course) and it was still going strong at the end of the day's shoot. Pop it onto a charger overnight, and it's good for another day's work. Simply amazing. I just ordered a second one because the only thing better than having one of these lights on set would be having two of them.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Brittle plastic The light output is fine, you've read all those reviews. However, I found the screw in the base of the unit to be a problem. It is brass, or some kind of metal, but is surrounded by brittle plastic. The light took a bump inside a car while shooting (low headroom) and it cracked the plastic around the metal base socket. It didn't take long for base to completely break loose. The light still works fine, but I can no longer mount it on the camera. Be careful, this is not meant for rough and tumble work.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Pretty useful This is a pretty useful device for low output continuous light. I've attached an image taken with just one of these, and I played with the intensity and white balance until the photo looked exactly like I wanted. Pretty cool. The downside is really the brightness. As to the quality, feels pretty good EXCEPT that one of the two units I purchased had (believe it or not) a broken 1/4 20 screw mount. How does that happen??? Anyway, pretty cool for product and close continuous light work.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I Want Another! Simply the best on the market....excellent light! Swit will probably reinforce the bottom where the light attaches to the swivel mount. Like any piece of equipment we use in our industry, we must be careful or the snap, crackle, and pop trio will begin to play their number 1 hit that makes us cry every time we hear it. Thanks BH and Swit
