Switronix TorchLED Bolt Overview

  • 1Description

The Switronix TorchLED Bolt On-Camera LED Light is a 200W-equivalent light for attaching to the top of your camera – or (likely via an adapter) to a light stand for use as a "sun gun" on a set or on location. The 16-LED light is powerful enough to use as a fill light outdoors. The TorchLED features a brightness and throw (40-50') that put it in the range of halogen lights.

If it has a free PowerTap output, you can use your existing 14.4V DC brick-style battery for powering this light – a PowerTap cable is included. Alternatively, the TorchLED Bolt accepts a Sony L-Series-style battery to supply the needed power. Though it puts out the equivalent of 200W incandescent light, it draws just 22W at maximum light output. Illumination is 1800 lux at 3200K at 3.3 ft distance.

TorchLED Bolt features two knobs for controlling the 5-100% dimming of 3000K light and 6000K light. Once optimal color temperature is set, the on/off switch can be used to preserve the mixture of the two color-temperature sources
Comes with a carrying case, a snap-on filter holder, and one diffusion gel

    Switronix TorchLED Bolt Reviews

TorchLED Bolt On-Camera LED Light is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 72.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great light for the price! Great all around light with a lot of color temp and brightness flexibility. A little on the heavy side and the ball head that comes with it is garbage.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice Light, heavy with battery Nice and bright light, very satisfied with this purchase. Build quality is good. At first I considered the plastic housing a minus but after using the light a couple times I realized it would have been extremely heavy with metal. It's about as heavy with battery attached already as you would ever want to stick on your flash shoe. Best use on a light stand for my needs.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Nothing but problems Only had this light for a month and I've exporienced a few problems with it. First off the light and the battery itself over powers the weight of my DSLR and it tips over/is too heavy for my camera. I have a t2i and use a Rokinon 35mm cine lens. The swivel shoe mount is also not steady and does not hold the weight of the camera and if my light is attached to the top of my camera my light tips over and falls. So for the majority of my shoots I would have to have another person hold the light, independent shoots would be too difficult. 2nd the fluorescent light stopped working a few days ago even though the warm light is still good. Since my 30 day return policy is over I don't think I'll be able to return it so it was a waste of money. Besides those two problems I love the way I used to be able to mix the warm and fluorescent light together to give off a nice light color but I do not like how heavy it is.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from does the trick, if you can situate it. i love the ease of use, cool-to-the-tough operation, the size and weight (as long as you're not trying to put it onto your dslr), and the ability to adjust the brightness and temp of the light. it's hard to qualify this as a truly professional piece of equipment though, based on what's included in the box. there's not a lot going on in the way of diffusion, even with the included lens, so if you're not careful it can easily become harsh. i really think this light should come standard with the a/c adapter, which i bought separately right off the bat, as i knew i would be using it for full days, not just two hours here and there. the included camera/stand mount is completely insufficient. it can't hold the weight of the light, with or without the battery attached. i recommend you buy a high quality adjustable mount immediately. that said, you do get a good amount of bang for your buck, if you go ahead and get the right accessories.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from AWESOME Great product, gives alot more light than it appears it can...I am very pleased. Its plastic body, but very great for what I am using it for (pro Photography-weddings)

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Adequate For The Price I shoot a wide variety of genres (even the occasional wedding), so an on-camera light sees a lot of action. The TorchLED is adequate for the price, providing lumens in a small package, however, the low number of LEDs makes diffusion a 'must'. This low number creates a 'harder' quality of light, but the built-in diffusor softens the light (also cutting the intensity). I tend to need only a slight bump of light, so the diffusers works just fine. TorchLED should have included a few densities of diffusers. They should also provide a way of mounting the unit to a lamp stand...

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great for quick interviews or a kicker. Daylight seems to be very accurate, however tungsten was not as accurate. It does provide a green-ish LED tinge. In most scenarios, I'm using daylight and having the ability to mix in some warmth is quite nice. All in all, I'm very happy with it. It's much better than the cheap-o CN-160.
