Watson D-1517 overview

  • 1Description

This Duo LCD Charger from Watson restores power to one or two LP-E6 / LP-E6N batteries via the included, dedicated plates. These can be replaced by optional plates for various other batteries. Additionally, the Duo can simultaneously charge two different batteries with different voltages. Charging time is between two and six hours. The unit also features a USB 2.0 port, which enables you to charge and power a mobile device while your camera batteries are being replenished. The LCD screen displays each battery's charge percentage--even when the Duo is unplugged--via the test button.

Running on 100-240 VAC power, the Duo can be used all over the world. It includes a power cord with a 2-prong North American plug, as well as a 12 VDC car charger that plugs into a cigarette lighter.

    Watson D-1517 reviews

Duo LCD Charger with Two LP-E6 / LP-E6N Battery Plates is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 188.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Nice concept; fair exocution I use the product to charge several LPE 6 batteries. It is handy and effective. Comes with a car charger ac adapter. I used that for sure on the shoot. That was very handy. My big complaint is that the adapters ( on the product that accept the type of battery that you decide to use with the device--in my case LPE6) fall off almost any time you take the battery out. Very annoying which is the only reason that I deducted 2 stars. Otherwise it is good. It is just one of those things that gets to you in the middle of a production. I like the adaptability of the plates, but I am potentially going to glue then on or something.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from DO NOT BUY THIS CHARGER B&H has been great about exchanging this product, but the charger itself is pathetic. I have exchanged this item twice...that's three tries. First delivery the charger wouldn't even recognize two batteries, let alone charge them. The second one could recognize two batteries, but spent 9 hours charging two batteries from 25% to 45%. I was sure I had hit the jackpot of rare failures, so I gave it one more try. As of right now, two batteries are in their 6th hour and have progressed from 25% to 40%. How a company can manufacture this kind of repeatable failure is beyond me, but take my word for it, DO NOT BUY THIS CHARGER.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product & Price I mainly use this charger for my Blackmagic video assist monitor, I have 4 Canon batteries and the monitor takes two at a time. I used to have four charges in my case and upgrading to this has increased the room in my case and saves me on time charging the batteries or testing ones I have to see how much juice is left. Regular Canon chargers run about $60 so for an extra $20 you get a second charger. The other bonus with this purchase is the additional car charger adaptor which was awesome on a recent cross country trip I took for a film shoot. My other team had Canon DSLR's and this really came in handy in keeping the cameras rolling. Worth the money and investment.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Great charger,Terrible adapter plates The electronics on the charger works well, but the adapter plates for the LP-E6 Batteries don't align correctly and damage the battery contacts. The actual contact pins on the adapter plates are also very thin compared to the Canon genuine charger, hence make bad contact even if the alignment was right.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Good design, poor execution I was impressed by the features and the informative LCD display when I first unboxed this charger. But it does not charge genuine Canon LP-E6 batteries correctly, and often shows them as 0V/0% charged even when I know they are almost full. It does work with the one aftermarket Watson battery I own. As others have mentioned, the interchangeable battery plates don't fit tightly enough, and often come off when you remove the batteries from the charger. This would be a minor annoyance that could be cured with a little glue, or a screw in the back, if the charger worked well enough to make it worth the trouble. But it doesn't perform, so it is going back.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Does Not Work With Canon LP-E6N Batteries The Watson Battery Charger works with both Watson LP-E6 and LP-E6N and with the Canon LP-E6. It DOES NOT WORK with the Canon LP-E6N battery. Further: 1. When the Watson LP-E6N battery is used in an EOS-80D alone = Battery Communication Error 2. When the Watson LP-E6N battery is used in the Vello battery grip for Canon EOS-80D with a Watson LP-E6 battery or with a Canon battery = Battery Communication Error. BOTTOM LINE: Watson has some wires crossed in duplicating the Canon LP-E6N. This has carried over to their dual battery charger for Canon batteries which charges the Canon LP-E6 battery but not the Canon LP-E6N.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent Charger for our Location Shoot I bought this charger to keep us up and running on a weekend long shoot in the woods and it definitely did that. Being able to see the charge on a battery at a glance without plugging it in is an essential feature and obviously having two batteries charging at once was a life-saver. My only complain is a minor one. The plates for the battery do tend to slip out of place easily so you need to make sure the plate is firmly in place every time you attach a battery. The USB port was a great added bonus for iPhone charging. A fantastic product.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Watch out for Canon LP-E6N batteries This charger does not recognize the new Canon LP-E6N batteries, at least the one I got with my new EOS 80D. The charger does OK with the Canon LP-E6 and the new Watson LP-E6N. Further, there's maybe something wrong with the Watson LP-E6N. When I use it in the camera I get a battery communication error. When I combine it with a Watson LP-E6 or a Canon LP-E6N in my Vello battery grip (BG-C10), I get a battery communication error and the battery grip camera controls don't work. So my perception is that the Watson folks have crossed some wires in trying to duplicate the Canon LP-E6N with the Watson LP-E6N. Hope they get it squared away. I like the pricing of Watson batteries and I'd like to be able to use them. For now I'll go with a couple Watson LP-E6 batteries and the Canon LP-E6N that came with the camera.
