FiiO D03K Overview

  • 1Description

The TAISHAN-D03K from FiiO is a simple device that converts coaxial or optical S/PDIF digital audio into a stereo analog output, perfect for multimedia components such as TVs or CD/DVD/Blu-ray players that do not feature analog output. Dual RCA phono outputs can be connected to an amplifier, while a 3.5mm mini stereo output can be used to supply signal to a WLAN wireless headphone system. (The mini stereo output is not recommended for direct connection to conventional wired headphones.)

The unit features a digital input format switch and an LED to confirm digital signal lock. Power is supplied by an included external power supply. The input will accept up to 24-bit/192 kHz resolution PCM digital audio, but Dolby Digital and DTS are not supported.

Note: Connecting regular headphones directly into the 3.5mm output is not recommended.

Converts a digital coaxial/optical S/PDIF signal to two-channel (left/right) analog output, which can then be fed to an amplifier or to WLAN headphones
Suitable for use with televisions and CD/DVD/Blu-ray players with S/DIF digital output
RCA coaxial and TOSLink digital inputs
Dual RCA phono and 3.5mm mini stereo output connectors
Supports up to 24-bit/192 kHz input (PCM only, no support for Dolby Digital or DTS formats)
Indicator for digital signal status (lock)
Receives power via a mini USB port

    FiiO D03K Reviews

TAISHAN-D03K - S/PDIF Digital to Analog Converter is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 58.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from works great My Fantom XR Rack one of the analog channels went out and I was using the SPDIF out to my Dat recorder. I really liked the way it sounded from the digital output but I can't cary around a huge 4 space Dat recorder onstage. SO I found this small item I can just put in the back of my rack and run the analog ch s to the line mixxer . bam sounds great . Although this is made for TVs , stereos, and Surround systems the quality is Id say even better than my Tascam Da . any musical gear that has SPDIF I may use one of these it really makes the sound more clear . I even saw a video live and I could really here the keys clerley. Go digital sounds great.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great converter! I used it to connect my TV to a NAD integrated amplifier with original Large Advent speakers. The sound from the high frequencies to the lowest was crystal clear with strong dynamic range and incredible neutral bass slam. I was astonished how much quality is packed in this little converter. Used both optical and digital rca connectors with equal results. It is important to have high quality interconnects to get the best out of this converter. Highly recommended. B&H service was, as always, superb!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Clear, clean audio converter I bought this to convert the audio from my TV, which only has a S/PDIF output for audio, to a Sennheiser wireless headphone system. I have to say it works flawlessly. Set up was easy and worked right away. Audio from the TV is clear with no noticeable distortion. Solid construction all around. The only thing that didn't work for me was the included USB power cable's length. It's about three feet long and was not going to work for my set up. I just bought a longer USB cable and connected it to the included power adapter with no problems. I highly recommend this unit if you're in the market for a converter.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good device - bad adapter The power adapter that came with the device caused unacceptable level of hum in the audio. But it's standard USB and when I substitute a power adapter from my cell phone it's nice and quiet. If you have an unused USB port you can draw power from, you don't need the adapter. Other than that the device itself seems perfectly fine.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Set it up and forget it! Some time ago I got an Apple TV and was surprised to see that the only audio out ports were optical and HDMI. I have an older receiver that doesn't have such connectors. The D03K was an easy fix to my problem and MUCH cheaper than updating my receiver! The only problem I have now is that there seem to be a very slight delay between the sound coming out of the TV set and the receiver. I don't care much because I mainly use it for audio but if you're after a home theatre solution, this could be a problem.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Now I hear my HD TV through my stereo! I got this tiny D->A converter so I could run TV audio into my stereo. So now I hear my shows with 7 additional speakers! The sound from the TV was weak and struggled with low bass, so this situation is a great improvement. The Fiio is very easy to set up and use, as long as your TV supports PCM digital audio. That's required. In most cases, you will also need a TOSLINK fiber optic cable. Uses a USB cable to hook up to a power supply. I'm pleased so far. Let's hope it lasts.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Required for backwards compatible BluRay hookup Wish I'd known I needed this before I bought a new BluRay player, I would have ordered it then. I needed another $$worth of adapters to make Samsung player work with older analog stereo and flat screen TV. If you don't have HDMI slot or digital coaxial plug this is the only low cost DAC I could find. They can get pricey. I now own a poor mans home theater system for less than $300.00 with a 50 in flat screen. Can't speak about durability now as I just got it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from works as specified, no problems used it to solve a 60hz noise coupling between a desktop PC and a home theater receiver. Connects and works flawlessly right out of the box. Using the USB power from the PC still allowed the noise to couple in but using the wall pack power supply provided a clean connection with no more hummmm. Could have bought a cheaper one but this was a good balance of price vs quality.

I lost my power adapter for my Fiio D03. What are the specs for a new (replacement) one?
    Asked by: Anonymous
The factory supplied power adapter for the D03 has a 5VDC / 0.8A (800mA) output. You can use any power adapter that supplies 5VDC and at least 800mA. An adapter that supplies more than 800mA will not harm the device, as it will only draw as much current as required. A computer USB port only supplies 500mA, but most modern Android/Apple phone power adapters are rated for 5VDC / 1000mA and will work fine with the D03. The cable (if needed), is a basic USB A to Mini USB A cable.

I bought this Taishan D03 and it works like a charm with optical input. But when I hooked up the coax digital output from my Direct TV Genie box, I get no sound out. In both cases I'm using the 3.5 mm output to a wireless headset. Do I need to use the RCA outputs with coax in?

There is a switch on the bottom of the unit. Did you try flipping it?

This is not meant to be used with a smartphone, and I don't believe there would be any way to make that connection.

Yep. About 2 x 2 x 1/2 - just look at the RSA connectors to see how small that is. :-)

How can I attach Fiio converter to LG smart TV?
    Asked by: Anonymous
The Fiio TAISHAN-D03K requires a digital input via COAX or optical connection depending on your TV model. The output is analog via standard RCA cable. Suitable digital cables can be found here: <a href= target= _blank >;/a>

HelloDoes the FiiO TAISHAN-D03K - S/PDIF Digital to Analog Converter come with an optical digital cable to plug in to my TV?If not, what do you recommend?ThanksRobert Wood
    Asked by: Anonymous
It Does not come with a cable. Order a Toslink Male to Toslink Male Fiber Optic Cable in the correct length. You will need to remove the plastic protection caps or covers. I cannot remember if they were on the male or female ends or both. Just look for them and carefully remove them.

Why does the vendor recommend against direct connection of earphones using the mini stereo output jack? This would appear to necessitate purchase of wireless headphones -- a not insignificant additional expense.
    Asked by: Gary N.
That would seem to be the case. Fiio makes so many products so I'm assuming you are using this D to A converter so you can plug the RCA's into your pre amp. I can't be sure as you haven't told me. But there is no reason for you to use the D to A converter for your headphones. Just hook them up to your pre amp and forget about the converter as a headphone monitor. Did a bit of checking around. Forget the 3.5mm for anything but wireless phones.
