The black Glass Limo Backpack from ThinkTank is specially designed to hold long lenses. It accommodates a 600mm f/4 or a 500mm f/4 without a body attached or a 400mm f/2.8 with a pro body attached. The backpack has a padded collar for stabilizing a 300mm or similar-sized lens. When using the pack to carry a larger lens, the padded collar must be removed or the lens won't fit properly. The pack can be reconfigured to hold a standard DSLR and up to 8 lenses. The interior touch fastened dividers are removable and adjustable so you can customize the pack to suit your needs. In order to secure a long lens in place, the pack comes with a specially designed touch-fastening collar.

Can this bag carry a Nikon D500 with the nikkkor 200-500mm mounted, with the lens hood mounted properly? Or does the lens hood need to be reversed for that combo to fit?
I use a canon 1 dx mark 2 with a 200/400 F4 lens attached. It works perfectly. However the lens hood is reversed. I guess in your case the hood may have to be reversed as well.
