The R-Adapter M from Leica enables Leica R lenses to be mounted on the Leica M series cameras. The R-Adapter M can attach R lenses to any M-series digital camera, such as the M-E or M Monochrom, however with the M Digital Rangefinder's Live View capability, use of the R lenses is optimized. There are no electronic or mechanical functions between camera and lens that are bridged by the adapter, however, when the adapter is attached to the M camera, a list of 20 dedicated R lens profiles is made available on the camera, including EXIF lens recognition and calibrated imaging workflows for each lens. While all R lenses can be mounted to the M camera with this adapter, only the last generation of R lenses can receive digital corrections, such as the reduction of corner vignetting, via the adapter.

Is this can use in M6/M7/MP, even old M camera?
Yes, it could be used, however you will not be able to focus the lens through an optical viewfinder or evf. You could however focus by scale on the lens. If the lens focus' at infinity properly then the distance markings on the lens should be accurate. You will need to test this. Of course wide-angles can be easily used with large depth of field.

I have a Leica Vario-Elmar 21-35 Asph. How would this work on a Leica M10-r with or without a shoe mounted EVF ?
You can use this lens with the R-Adapter M and focus it by using either the rear LCD screen or using the Leica EVF B&H # LEVSB MFR # 18767. The rangefinder will not work of course with this set-up. You should get very good results with this combo as Leica makes this adapter specifically for this application.

No it does not change neither the focal length or there will be no crop factor.

will this adapter work with m9
It will attached the R lens to the M9 but provide you with no ability to focus the lens. Really meant for the M240/246/262 and M10, where the Visoflex EVF allows you to focus.

Unable to focus on looking through the viewfinder of the camera and using the rangefinder?
If using the R-M adapter, focusing is only possible via the digital M bodies Live View capability. There are no electronic or mechanical functions {the rangefinder uses a mechanical linkage to the lens to show focus} between camera and lens that are bridged by the adapter. When using this adapter with an optional electronic viewfinder { B&H # LEEVF } you can shoot your M Digital rangefinder like a DSLR, including video capture.

The Leica R-Adapter M has not begun shipping, but Leica is encouraging dealers to accept advance orders. Leica USA has not given us a confirmed delivery date. When stock status should change, we will update our website reflecting availability.

If one uses this adapter in addition to the M to T adapter on an SL, are any functions passed to the camera? That is to say, does the camera recognize which lens is being used?
Six-bit M lenses are accurately recognized by the SL when the M-T and R-M adapters are stacked between the lens and camera body. SL lens profiles are therefore engaged.
