The Hoya 82mm NXT Circular Polarizer Filter helps to reduce reflections and glare by filtering out light that has become polarized due to reflection from a non-metallic surface. The light from the sun naturally becomes partially polarized due to reflecting off electrons in air molecules, causing the light to scatter into what appears as haze. A polarizing filter arranges, and filters, this directionally polarized light perpendicularly to the reflected light, allowing for the absorption of much of this light. This results in a noticeable reduction of glare and reflections from non-metallic surfaces and an increase in the saturation of skies and foliage.

A circular polarizer only differs from a linear polarizer in that it contains a quarter wave plane in addition to the linear polarizing filter. The addition of this quarter wave plane is to circularly polarize the linearly polarized light for the use of auto focus and exposure functions. Due to how the light is broken down and filtered with a linear polarizer, auto focus and exposure accuracy become skewed during use. When the light becomes circularly polarized, it permits the use of these functions.

This filter is non-coated. Hoya NXT filters have over 97% average light transmission, and are constructed from heat-resistant, high-transparency optical glass.

Clears up haze in distant landscapes and provides more saturated, vivid colors.
Non-coated.
Strongest effect when used at a 90° angle from the sun.
Circular polarizers are ideal for use with digital cameras and autofocus lenses where a linear polarizer will often disrupt auto exposure and focus features.
Over 97% average light transmission.

82mm NXT Circular Polarizer Filter is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 16.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Polarizer Filter I bought this filter to use on my new Nikon 24-70mm VR lens. It is my first 82mm filter since I mostly use 77mm filters. The first thing I recognized is that colors look richer and the filter seems to take more reflections off of mountain streams. At this point, this is a purely subjective assessment. I haven't had time to do a comparison with my other polarizer filters. Another purely subjective assessment is that the filter has greater light loss - up to 2 1/2 stops - at maximum reduction of polarization. That seems to be greater light loss than my other high quality polarizer filters. That's no problem for landscapes and mountain streams because I usually shoot that kind of image with a tripod and prefer slow exposures.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good optics, very slim profile Using with Pentax 24-70mm f/2.8 zoom lens mounted on Pentax K-1 camera. Despite slim profile, it should not be stacked on top of another filter to prevent vignetting. Filter ring is keyed on top to indicate its top orientation, which is obscured when using a sun hood with the lens. It'd be useful if the key were also visible from the front. Be careful not to over-tighten since it is very slim and difficult to remove. I recommend a 72-82mm Rubberized Filter Wrench as an accessory.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from an excellent choice I was looking for a circular polarizer that had a slim profile so I could use it effectively on a wide angle lens. The Hoya 82mm NXT has done the job. It reduces glare and enhances colors without causing any shading at 24mm. The case is difficult to use, especially with gloves on but the filter itself I recommend.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from CP for my TS-E 24mm The Hoya NXT CP is a good value, polarization effect is as expected, thin design minimizes vignetting which is inherent anyways in a T&S lens. Only problem is that the thread tends to get stuck, do not overtighten!!
