The Hoya 58mm alpha MC UV Filter is a general use, clear filter that helps to absorb ultraviolet light. No additional coloration or contrast is provided, allowing you to pair this filter with others.

The UV filter is also useful as a general protective filter to leave on lenses at all times. Filters help to reduce dust and moisture from reaching your lens element and provide additional protection in case of drops or situations where scratching could occur.

Hoya alpha UV filters are multi-coated for reducing flare, ghosting, and reflections on the filter surface. As a result, a higher light transmission of approximately 96% is possible, providing you with additional contrast and high color fidelity.

The alpha filters are constructed from optical glass and a precision milled aluminum frame.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Difficult to clean! On a windy day, this filter was subjected to spray from a fountain. I attempted to clean it with a microfiber cloth, and could never get it clean! I couldn't clean off WATER from this filter and ended up having to trash it the first time it was used. That's not such a great value. My B+H filter, which was also covered in water droplets, cleaned easily.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simple, Easy, Lens Protection If you feel, like I do, that a new lens needs additional protection on the end glass, then this is the perfect filter for you. It seems almost clear if not for the UV protection, but it also saves you money. Consider the protection of a $+ lens for the price of this filter. I would much rather replace this filter for pennies, than have to replace an expensive lens because the end glass was damaged. I have never noticed any coloration of alteration of images using a UV filter. Either keep it in its protective case till needed, or just leave it on the lens all the time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product! Least to install and fits like factory. Helps protect and keep lense clean. Definitely will buy more as I get more lenses instead of switching between the lenses every time.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Cheap Insurance I just bought my daughter her first DSLR ( a Canon Rebel T5). Her first lesson was to always have a UV filter on each lens to protect the actual glass of the lens from being scratched or broken. If I have the choice of replacing a several hundred dollar lens or a $10 filter, I choose the $10 filter every time. This is a must have accessory, especially if you shoot outdoors.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from May include lens shade in frame The UV filter is great but when used on this particular Canon GL2, which had a lens shade that screwed into the lens thread, the insertion of the filter moved the lens shade further from the lens. On the full wide framing the edge of the lens shade intruded into the frame. Just an issue to be aware of if the lens shade will screw into the filter threads.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I will always recommend Hoya filters! I use filters mostly for lens protection, and they've helped (shattered filters are ALWAYS better than shattered lenses). However, there are times I want to reduce haze when working with landscapes. I've found Hoya filters to fill this need perfectly. I only use their filters, and I've always been satisfied with the results.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Household brand for UV filter in my crib I purchased this UV filter for my Nikon 50mm f/1.8 lens. It's nice and durable. I see a few people who don't attach filters to their fixed focal length lenses but I have the tendency to do so simply for the extra protection especially living in New York. You never know what you're camera might bang into on the city streets.
