The Eris E5 Two-Way Active 5.25" Studio Monitor from PreSonus delivers an accurate response with tight bass and a clear upper end. The Kevlar low-frequency transducers, low-mass silk-dome tweeters and responsive Class-AB amplification combine with acoustic-adjustment controls to create a versatile and adaptable listening system.

The E5 begins with a front-ported enclosure made of vinyl-laminated MDF. It features a 5.25" Kevlar low-frequency driver mated with a 45W, Class-AB amplifier. For the highs, Eris employs a 1" silk-dome tweeter powered by a 35W, Class-AB amplifier. The E5 outputs a clean 102 dB peak SPL. Its frequency response is rated at 64 Hz to 22 kHz.

The Eris E5 provides a balanced XLR, a balanced ¼" TRS, and an unbalanced RCA line-level input. Once you're plugged in, set the Input Gain and you're ready to go.

Acoustic Tuning Controls

The Eris provides three EQ controls in its Acoustic Tuning section: High, Mid, and Low Cutoff. These controls enable you to fine-tune the monitors to your space. The Low control also is useful when using the E5 with a subwoofer.

The High control is a shelving filter that boosts or cuts all frequencies above 4.5 kHz by as much as 6 dB. The Mid control is a mid-frequency peak filter that boosts or cuts frequencies centered at 1 kHz and extending about one octave above and below that frequency. The Low Cutoff control rolls off frequencies below either 80 or 100 Hz at a slope of 12 dB/octave. This control is especially useful if you also have a connected subwoofer.

Acoustic Space Control

A three-position Acoustic Space switch controls a second-order, low shelving filter that cuts frequencies below 800 Hz by either 2 or 4 dB to compensate for the boundary bass boost that occurs in close proximity to walls or corners.

Thorough Protection Circuitry

RF shielding protects against radio frequencies that could be introduced to the signal and become audible. Eris monitors also provide overheat protection, current-output limiting and subsonic protection. Soft-startup amplifiers prevent damaging pops from sounding through the speakers when you power them up.

Staggering value

Bought 12 of these for a restaurant installation in Napa (Los Agaves, fabulous new downtown Latin) and the sound system really lights the place up. Running Airfoil of a Mac into a lot of Airport Expresses. Total zone control.

I did a fair amount of shopping around for a reasonably-priced, yet legit, studio monitor system with subwoofer. Nothing came close to the value of this deal. Once I had it in my possession, I was even more impressed. These are well-made components and they sound fantastic!

Extraordinary value - best sound for the money!

Been listening to them for the last 2 weeks and enjoying every minute of it. E5's are mounted on stands putting their tweeters at ear level, the sub is positioned away from the rear wall in the same horizontal plane as the monitors as suggested by PreSonus. I'm running the E5's from 100Hz up (12dB per octave slope) and the sub is set at 120Hz (24dB slope). Even pulled away from the wall the T10 goes deep - used pink noise to set levels and then had to drop the sub down further for balance with music. Reasonably tight bass that sounds good on classical, jazz and pop ranging from country to hard rock. E5's sound clean and detailed - no treble harshness or boxy sound on vocals - listening for faults and not finding much to complain about - none considering the price. Peak levels at about 90dB is all I need with nearfield listening - can get a LOT louder than that if you need it. Performance has way exceeded my expectations and I can't think of a better investment than this package - over $200 less than the equivalent JBL system and way less than the Yamaha with more features than either - what's not to love? Rest of system consists of Topping DX7s DAC/headphone amp with Sennheiser HD600's. Sources are CD's ripped with Apple Lossless running on iTunes @ 44/16 and Tidal @ 44/16 and 96/24 on my 2018 iMac 27" - everything but the DAC from B&H - best retailer on the Web!

I can't imagine a better deal.

$500 for an utterly sweet monitor system! That was my budget, and since acquiring and setting it up the system, I've been pinching myself. I spent much more some years ago for a system that wasn't nearly as cohesive and true. That system had larger speakers but no subwoofer, and too much of the bass content was simply unavailable for review. I added a subwoofer for that system, but never achieved the synergy with that system that I have with this one. Sitting in my sweet spot, the stereo mix mix seems to hang in the air--very smooth and detailed with all the definition I could expect for the money. A little tweaking with positioning, volume, and crossover frequency on the subwoofer gave me all the well-defined boom I needed to work constructively on the low end of my mixes. It sounds great AND sounds true--which is all you can ask for from a studio monitor system. And the wonderful inclusion of the T10's bypass switch allows you to A/B your mixes with just the small speakers, helping you add just the right amount of midrange content to define your bass parts in lesser sound systems. At this price it's a steal--and everything I hoped it would be.

Great monitors for a part-time home studio

At home I do occasional audio recording, mixing and video editing - and a lot of listening at the same desk in between. Doing the editing work on some moderately good computer speakers was resulting in some odd sounding output, and headphones weren't improving things, so I decided it was time for a pair of proper monitors. Due to space constraints I needed to mount them sideways. I settled on the E5 and am super happy with them. My setup includes Auralex MoPADs for isolation, and a TC Electronic Level Pilot X as a desktop volume control. I'd recommend getting both of these at the same time. These monitors sound as great as I'd hoped. Right away I noticed that the stereo imaging was spot on - I can pan a signal and pinpoint it right on the line between the speakers rather than vaguely in their direction. I'm hearing things previously unheard. I'm loving these speakers and am confident that you will too.

Are these magnetically shielded? I'd like to use them for video editing, but I have a lot of HDDs on my desk that I don't want to accidentally destroy.

Based on her track record, I'm inclined to go with Lisa on this one. :-) But could someone confirm?

Is there a floor stand that would tilt this monitor up like a wedge?
Asked by: Paul
I purchased inexpensive adjustable satellite speaker stands which are both height adjustable and can be tilted. It wasn't a good idea at all! Although the Eris weight was within spec, the slightest brush against the speaker, or any effort to adjust placement leaves the speaker to tip much too much. When I purchase stands again I'll choose ones that are only height adjustable. Usually Monitor speakers need to be positioned so that the tweeter meets your ear. A small tilt could be accomplished with angled absorption pads. The other option could be stands that clip or stand on a desk and are designed with a front lip so that they can be tipped. Gator Frameworks makes these and I've seen similar from other manufacturers. Hope this helps.

can i use the presonus e 5 or e 8 as computer speakers?
Asked by: YVES B.
Yes you can. There are 2 options to connect these to a computer. Most computers come with an 1/8 stereo output jack. This is an unbalanced signal and can be fed into the rca jacks in the speakers. Because the left & right wires need to go in opposite directions, it might be difficult to find a cable that goes from 1/8 to 2 separate rca plugs. You might need an 1/8 to rca converter plus 2 rca cords. The other option is to buy a USB sound card which has balanced outputs. I use a Peavey USB-P and 2 XLR cables that have right angle connectors on one end. This was the only way I could get clean, hum-and-static free sound from my computer.Keep in mind that the 1/4 jacks on the speakers are for balanced signals. You should not use a simple 1/8 to 1/4 adapter for that.
