PreSonus E5 overview

  • 1Description

The Eris E5 Two-Way Active 5.25" Studio Monitor from PreSonus delivers an accurate response with tight bass and a clear upper end. The Kevlar low frequency transducers, low-mass silk-dome tweeters and responsive Class AB amplification combine with acoustic-adjustment controls to create a versatile and adaptable listening system.

The E5 begins with a front-ported enclosure made of vinyl-laminated MDF. It features a 5.25" Kevlar low-frequency driver mated with a 45W, Class AB amplifier. For the highs, Eris employs a 1" silk-dome tweeter powered by a 35W, Class AB amplifier. The E5 outputs a clean 102 dB peak SPL. Its frequency response is rated at 64Hz to 22kHz.

The Eris E5 provides a balanced XLR, a balanced ¼" TRS, and an unbalanced RCA line-level input. Once you're plugged in, set the Input Gain and you're ready to go!

Acoustic Tuning Controls
The Eris provides three EQ controls in its Acoustic Tuning section: High, Mid, and Low Cutoff. These controls enable you to fine-tune the monitors to your space. The Low control also is useful when using the E5 with a subwoofer.

The High control is a shelving filter that boosts or cuts all frequencies above 4.5kHz by as much as 6dB. The Mid control is a mid-frequency peak filter that boosts or cuts frequencies centered at 1kHz and extending about one octave above and below that frequency. The Low Cutoff control rolls off frequencies below either 80 or 100Hz at a slope of 12dB/octave. This control is especially useful if you also have a connected subwoofer.
Acoustic Space Control
A three-position Acoustic Space switch controls a second-order, low shelving filter that cuts frequencies below 800 Hz by either 2 or 4dB to compensate for the boundary bass boost that occurs in close proximity to walls or corners.
Thorough Protection Circuitry
RF shielding protects against radio frequencies that could be introduced to the signal and become audible. Eris monitors also provide overheat protection, current-output limiting and subsonic protection. "Soft startup" amplifiers prevent damaging pops from sounding through the speakers when you power them up.

    PreSonus E5 reviews

Eris E5 Two-Way Active 5.25" Studio Monitor (Each) is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 13.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Blowing fuses I purchased a set of these in April and within 2 days one of the speakers kept blowing fuses. B&H sent out another one and gave me credit for the return. Today (3 months later) the second original speaker is now also blowing fuses. B&H told me to contact Presonus. Presonus has a massive phone system without the correct department listed. Lets see how long it takes for them to contact me. I'm submitting this now to warn others of my issue and to degrade my rating to 1 star. Speakers are nice, but blowing fuses is unacceptable. I will update once I have resolved this issue with Presonus.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great sounding monitors1 These are excellent sounding and suprisingly robust little speakers. I play rock and metal guitar and need something that would give a true representation of a distorted guitar tone. The mid frequency range can be so peaky on a lot of speakers that sound otherwise fine for other material. Im considering replacing my rehearsal space monitors with 4 of the 8 inch version and a subwoofer, as they are the only thing that gives a good reproduction of my direct, Fractal generated guitar tone.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Be careful with quality control I cannot comment on the actual performance of these monitors because I returned them. The set I received look like B-grade stock and should never have left the factory. (I do not fault B&H because these are received in sealed cartons). One of them had scuff marks on the front: Not horrible, but unacceptable. And on both of them the low-end driver was very haphazardly mounted: both were crooked. This would certainly effect performance. One was shifted up and the other down. I returned them and selecyed monitors from another vendor.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great amazing speakers but NOT... Amazing speakers. One of the best out there. HOWEVER These are not magnetically shield, I realized this after my external hard drive closes to one of the speakers failed. Emailed the company to find out that they are not magnetically shield. They said hard drives should be safe 2 to 4 feet away from speakers... I hope this can save some people headaches.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Big bang To the reviewer below, I have tried different monitors, these things are nice! I can tweek them for my room with all the options it gives. Loud or quiet sound very natural. Can't believe the 100hz response, so big and round, don't sound like 5 speakers! Way beyond anything in this price point. They remind me of a pair Genelecs we had for reference monitors way back. Really worth a listen to. Havn't had any issues with fuses, hopefully that is an isolated event.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice Monitors I think this speakers are awesome. Although I haven't compared them to other monitors, I do know what good sound is and these have them from flat to stereo. I did have to return one due to not powering up and blowing fuzes but I still really like these and don't think I could have done any better for semi pro home video editing. I use these with Adobe Audition, Focusrite Interface, Macbook pro, and Thunderbolt display. I would have given them 5 stars but like I said, I haven't had any others to compare.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from good bang for the buck I use these monitors for home voice over recording. They give a nice even sound and have options to help set your listing environment. The bass reproduction is a little thin, however, with 5 drivers it is to be expected. Overall the quality is excellent for the cost.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from GREAT FOR STAGE PIANO & KEYBOARDS I use the Eris E5 with my keyboards in my home studio. Absolutely fantastic detail and very powerful for 5. A must have for keyboardist with small room looking for great monitors. Add a PreSonus subwoofer if you need to crack the plaster like I did! not kidding
