Blackmagic Design BDLKMINIREC overview

  • 1Description

The Blackmagic Design DeckLink Mini Recorder is a PCIe slot capture card with both SDI and HDMI inputs for capturing uncompressed 10-bit video from a camera directly into your computer. You'll be able to ingest footage as the camera's recording live or from a playback of the camera's recording. The inputs are active, so once you plug a cable into them, they'll begin functioning. This card automatically switches between SD and HD, so it'll be able to handle all common video formats. The point of ingesting through a capture card is to bypass unnecessary compressions and hence data loss. The card performs just one compression, upon delivery to your computer, where your footage gets encoded into an edit-ready codec of your choice.

  • SDI 10-bit SD/HD switchable video with 16 ch HD / 8 ch SD embedded audio
  • HDMI type A video with 8 ch audio embedded in SD and HD
1-Lane PCI Express Card
The Mini Monitor is a 1-lane PCI Express card and is compatible with 4, 8 and 16 lane PCI Express slots on Mac OS X, Windows, and Linux. The only Mac capable of accepting the card is a Mac Pro as other Macs can't be opened to enable installation. The card features two PCIe shields for both full height and low profile slots.

    Blackmagic Design BDLKMINIREC reviews

DeckLink Mini Recorder is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 45.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect video capture card for my application I had to obtain a new camera for our church live stream broadcasts and the old camera operated with a fire wire. I knew the new cameras did not support that method so I began looking for a video capture device. I read many reviews and analyzed my needs. Based on my live stream service provider recommendations and the reputation of Black Magic products I selected the DeckLink Mini Recorder. Installation was quite easy and setup was a snap. It worked exactly as I expected the very first time I tried it. Now we are back in business with live stream services. As usual, B&H was a great partner with the transaction. You can't beat them on price and selection.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from This is perfect for Lumix GH4 but not Sony FRD AX100 I am %100 satisfied with its compatibility with my Lumix GH4 to use with XSplit Producer YouTube Live. But I tried very hard that it work with Sony FDR AX100 and it will not work at all. So totally not satisfied. I am giving 4 stars because it does my work without flaw with Panasonic GH4 and that's most of the times I needed it to work through HDMI for my Live YouTube Broadcast. Conclusion: If you are looking for it to work with GH4 or may be GH3 (I don't have GH3) it is fantastif! But it does not work with Sony FDR AX100 Over all, good product for the price and quality.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Works great, but not with Skype This device works great with the included Media Express software, VLC, Splitcam and probably others as well. However out of about 50 attempts, I only got it to be recognized by Skype twice. BlackMagic does not provide support and testing of Skype so I am left trying to troubleshoot this alone. Be aware that this device does not have onboard compression so if you want to record full uncompressed video, you will probably need a fast raid array or SSD. The data rate is too high for standard SATA drives.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works like a charm! I am building a vMix system and decided to go with the Mini Recorders over the Decklink Quad. I bought one to see if it would work with my Z97 motherboard, and it did. I like that it has both HDMI and SDI inputs - no adapters needed. I will add more as I go along, and will add a Mini Monitor for output. At this price, the only thing to consider is if it works with your motherboard.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Maybe a little ahead of its time The purchase and delivery were fine. The card was easy to install once I swapped in the low profile bracket provided. I use the SDI connector attached to a 1080p 30fps HD box security camera. The Media Express software included with the card works fine, but I want to use the card to capture webcam snapshots automatically and I haven't found a program that works. I've tried about a dozen. Most webcam programs can't be configured to handle the exact video size and frame rate of the video source, which is required according to experts on the Blackmagic forum. Splitcam and Manycam should work, but I haven't got it working yet. It seems to be a little tricky to get it to work with live streaming services like Skype, Hangouts, Twitch, etc., but it can be done apparently. Maybe it's just a matter of time until software developers begin to support HD video.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Conflicts with other devices on AVID MC7 Purchased this to ingest SD and HD video into my AVID MC7 (Windows 64 bit pro) PC and it seemed to work fine with HDMI HD for the first day, but when I tried to move to SD I found some issues: 1) Unable to select separate sources for video and audio. Yes the card supports embedded audio via SDI, but my source outputs video via S-video (or RGB) and audio via SPDIF. When I tried to add spdif audio via my AVID Mbox3, the supplied Black Magic Media Express software refused to ingest separate audio/video and the capture feature in AVID showed a greyed out selection for the Blackmagic card (which had worked previously). 2) Appears to be a hardware conflict between my AVID Mbox3 audio device and the Decklink mini recorder card. On the third day the AVID issued an error message that stated it had lost communication with the card and could not (and despite a reload of the OS would not) regain communications. I am still able to use the card for 10 bit ingest of 1080i_60 material using the Media Express software and the captured video looks great! If this is your only application, this could be a good product for you. Great idea to provide a low profile faceplate with the unit for use in ingest servers. Blackmagic typically have great products and my case may be unique, however considering that my setup is vanilla and only uses AVID approved hardware/software, I would have expected a flawless experience.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Slicker than snot on a doornob Blackmagic Design really can do no wrong. This is the simplest card to get up and running. It preforms as advertised and produces really good quality video with lots of codec options through the provided software.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Tool - Firmware is the Problem Essentially, to get the best out of this product, you have to find the RIGHT firmware for your use. The latest firmware isn't always the best option.
