Blackmagic Design DeckLink Mini Recorder
Key Features
 • 1-Lane PCIe Slot Capture Card
 • SDI and HDMI Inputs
 • Inputs Uncompressed 10-Bit Video
 • 4:2:2 Video Sampling
The Blackmagic Design DeckLink Mini Recorder is a PCIe slot capture card with both SDI and HDMI inputs for capturing uncompressed 10-bit video from a camera directly into your computer. You'll be able to ingest footage as the camera's recording live or from a playback of the camera's recording. The inputs are active, so once you plug a cable into them, they'll begin functioning. This card automatically switches between SD and HD, so it'll be able to handle all common video formats. The point of ingesting through a capture card is to bypass unnecessary compressions and hence data loss. The card performs just one compression, upon delivery to your computer, where your footage gets encoded into an edit-ready codec of your choice.

I have purchased several of these cards. They are easily installed and integrate flawlessly with just about any video mixing software on the market. The entire Blackmagic line is professional quality at wallet friendly prices.

We installed this in a Win 10 x64 system with no issues. We will be using it with OBS and DaVinci with some legacy SDI equipment. Everything was working within an hour after a few quick web searches for setup configurations. Great product!

I use this capture card to stream on Livestream Studio software. It is silent and efficient, nothing to complain about.

So far, not great

I installed this for our church live stream and download Blackmagic's latest Desktop Video app (11.6). The audio was choppy and terrible, so I put my old Intensity 4K back in and had the same problem. The hardware has been great, but I had to revert the software (11.5.1) in order to get usable audio. We figured it out, but definitely docking a star for the software issues.

BMD Mini Recorder not quite plug and play!

The Blackmagic Decklink works great. The SDI input was a little finicky. We used a SMTAV PTZ camera 30X, make sure you have the correct settings (1080 30fs). BMD support was awesome. Make sure you have enough PCIe slots before purchasing!

Cheap and Reliable

These are great for our streaming towers because of the 1x slot width. I did a day of color and quality side by side tests with a Magewell ProCapture SDI single channel card and couldn't tell the difference.

question

will it record 1200p 25fps --- which is apparently a HD-SDI supported format (1600/1200)?

Sorry, but 1600 x 1200 is a computer format and not a video format. So that we may assist you in getting what you need, please write us at [email protected]bhphoto.com.

With this card can you use BMD Media Express to record (capture) from a PTZ SDI camera? In other words, will Media Express recognize the PTZ SDI camera as a "device"? Also, will Media Express record it as an mp4 file or is that an additional process?
Asked by: Tim
It will record according to the smpte 292m standard, (720p/1080i) so the codec and or wrapper you put on it is up to your software. As far as the other metadata, I am not certain. Again, these things will most likely depend on your software (Such as what may come with the PTZ cam.....) This will probably take some experimentation to find out, but for the price of the card, I wouldn't have super high expectations.....but for what it does best (import hd video) it is pretty solid!

Will this work to capture video, picture only, I use a USB Behringer Audio mixer for sound already. Will it go directly from a Roland EDIROL V-8 Video Mixer to this card using a true SDI CABLE? will it upconvert to a nicer color/resolution/format? I am sick of the weak bloody capture usb s-video low res device I have
Asked by: LIVE AT THE
I don't believe the Edirol puts out sdi video. The mini recorder accepts hd-sdi and hdmi. If you want audi from a second source (usb) you would set your PC audio preference to usb audio codec. The mini recorder does noy do upconversion from a composite or componenent video format, it is hd digital in only....hdmi or hd-sdi. I would look at cards from Osprey if you want to digitize analog video.

Would this card act as a hardware encoder for live streaming?
Asked by: Danielle
No, this could be part of your streaming solution though. For the sake of discussion, I'll assume that you have a video signal from a camera that you want to stream over the internet so that someone could watch your video. There are many ways to do this which is beyond the scope of answering this question. What this device does is to take a signal from a device that outputs through a HDMI connection. You'll then need a software application of some sort that does the actual conversion of the video signal to something that is streamable. How it actually gets streamed over the internet is yet another topic. Suffice to say that the answer to your question is No. This is not a hardware encoder. I'm sure B&H could help you find a device to fit your needs.

I have HDMI out on my camera, how does the connector plug directly into the card? What about the audio input?
Asked by: Donald
There is an HDMI port on the card. HDMI carries both audio and video. However if your audio is coming from a soundboard or another source not from the camera you would need to plug those cables into the computer’s sound card. Hope that helps!
