The Xume 77mm Lens Adapter is a precision-machined metal ring that attaches to a lens with a 77mm-diameter filter thread to provide instant and secure attachment of filters when Xume Filter Holders are installed. This adapter ring incorporates NdFeB rare Earth magnets into its design to enable a strong, but easy to remove, connection between the lens adapter and filter holder. By using quick-to-remove magnets to attach filters, changing of filters can occur much more quickly and eliminates the chance of cross-threading or jamming when installing or removing filters. The ring is approximately the same thickness as most step-rings and will not cause vignetting on most lenses with focal lengths as wide as 24mm (35mm equivalent). Over-the-lens type lens hoods are still compatible when Xume Adapters and Holders are in place and are recommended during use to provide an even more assured connection if working in busy environments.

Traditional snap-on lens caps are not directly compatible with Xume lens adapters. To protect the front element of a lens that is not in use, but has a Xume lens adapter installed on it, a Xume filter holder can be first connected to a snap-on lens cap. The combination of a snap-on lens cap and a Xume filter holder can then be placed over the lens instead of a filter with a Xume filter holder. Alternatively, a Xume lens cap designed to cover a correspondingly-sized Xume lens adapter may be used instead.

77mm Lens Adapter is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 38.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Why didn't I think of this. I got the set containing 4 filter holders and 2 adapters. All I can say is easy! It's about as difficult as putting a magnet on the fridge. I generally leave a UV filter on my lens so I attach the lens cap to that but it can be attached to any filter you have on the camera. You cannot attach the lens cap to the lens with only the adapter on(though you can buy a special lens cap that will fit) but by using a filter with the holder on you can use the regular cap. If you frequently switch filters, or think you would if it was quick and easy, I think you would be happy with the Xume system. And no I don't work for them, or B&H and am not benefiting from this review in any way.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Love the idea, until I lost a filter I really liked the Xume adapters and how snappy it is to switch filters. It fits snug and is well made. Two downsides: 1.Like others have mentioned, it can cause some extra vignetting at wider angles. 2. I recently lost a $120 ND filter because of it. When moving my gear over on a rocky ocean shore, I accidentally bumped the filter with my leg and it popped right off and rolled down the rocky shore into the ocean. Too deep to get back and probably scratched/ruined anyway. So - I love the idea and bought a bunch of these. But I'll probably go back to not using them and using an extra few seconds to attach filters the old-school way.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great concept, sorta works. Makes swapping filters much quicker/easier but does not insure the filter is held firmly in place. Yes the filter will stay on, but in the case of variable ND filters, the magnetic contact allows the matching filter holder to rotate against the magnetic lens adapter, making it difficult to use the filter correctly. this would pair much better with standard ND filters with a single value of neutral density/light reduction in my opinion. I will have to play with them a few more times to know if I will want to use them, but I can see some scenarios where this product can overcome the pain of using DSLRs and Mirrorless cameras for video.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Absolutely indispensable for video work. I can't speak highly enough about this system. As a wedding videography company we change locations often, inside to outside to party bus, etc. Because my shutter speed needs to stay around 50 for a cinematic look, I use NDs to maintain shallow depth of field in bright environments. This system allows me to change filters in seconds, with a satisfying *click* that lets me know they're on the lens securely. I've been using them for years, and I've only had one break (I dropped the lens). Even though it was my fault, I wrote to Xume and they sent me a replacement immediately. I have them on every lens in the bag. Truly indispensable for video work.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Absolutely essential for filters The XUME magnetic filter system is stunning in its simplicity and spot on in execution. Used together, the Adapter (screws into the barrel of the lens) and Lens Holder (the filter screws into this piece) allow you to attach filters to a lens magnetically, rather than with the screw in functionality. Very simple to set up and even easier to use. No more screwing around (pun intended) trying to mount fine thread components in less-than-ideal conditions. Think of this system as the answer to changing filters quickly or in the cold. Won't twist or become unmounted when using s CPL or VND filter. Just perfect.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Best solution for quick filter changes I use these on a set of cine-moded Nikkor primes (with a 52-77 step up ring to a 77-80 O.D. ring). These are invaluable for filter changes without a matte-box. In less than 3 seconds, I can change out a variable ND with a circular polarizer. One concern I had before trying these out is whether or not I could use a vari-ND. If the magnets were to weak, it would have been a headache to adjust these kind of filters. I'm pleased to say that the magnets holding the filter to the lens are strong enough adjust without issues, and are light enough to pop on and off with ease. That said, the major grip I have with this adapter is that you cannot use a traditional photo lens cap. Because the inside of the adapter contains space for magnets and is smooth, there is no way for a traditional lens cap to work with this design. But since I'm using these primarily on cine-modded lenses, this is not an issue for me because I planned to use push-on 80mm caps. If you are considering these for photography use, the only way I can see these working is if you buy dedicated filter holders for all your lens caps. While the lens cap issue is annoying, the ease of secure and speedy filter changes is a game-changer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Time-Saver! If you've ever spent time fumbling around trying to align tiny filter threads, particularly while outdoors and exposed to the elements, this product is a must-have. Filters simply snap on magnetically in less than a second and stay fastened securely. Not only does this save time, but it also prevents excessive handling of filters which can lead to accidentally dropping and breaking them. The only drawbacks are not being able to use a snap-on lens caps and slight vignetting with wide-angle lenses and thick filters. Both can be avoided. Thread-on lens caps can be added to a magnetic adapter and used in the same manner as a filter. Step-up rings can be used with larger filters to avoid vignetting.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Genius These little adaptors have saved me time and the frustration of screwing filters on and off. Friends of mine can't believe the ease and simplicity when I attach and detach filters. Word to the wise wide angle lens user - the XUME adaptor and filter holder will push your filter a tiny bit further forward, and though they can screw on to UV filters, you'll want to detach any other filters on your wide angle lenses to reduce the chance of vignetting. I recommend considering the kit that comes with two filter holder and one lens adaptor. It's a great deal on an already genius product.
