I have not been writing disks but it works on my Mac and PC well. The Mac does not have the software compatibility but the PC has lots of stuff. It does seem slower than some drives, but sure has versatility in formats

The hardware - at least, based on a week's usage - seems solid and well built. The bundled software, which is why we purchased this device, is utter garbage. It is disorganized, incredibly slow to function, and given to occasional crashes. And, it displays self-advertising when it starts.

Is the software required to burn discs? Does this device show up as a drive in Explorer when connected to a PC (Windows 11)?
Asked by: Bob
The software included with the Buffalo 16x Desktop BDXL Blu-Ray Burner, B&H #BUBRXL16U3, is not 100% required to burn discs; Windows 11 can burn discs through the built-in tools available in Windows Explorer. The included software offers additional options for burning discs, as well as a media player for playing Blu-ray movies. If you want that additional functionality, installing the software is recommended.

question

Will it work with Mac?
Asked by: Anonymous
The included software will not work with the Mac OS, however the drive is fully compatible. The Finder will be able to read, and write data to the drive. Note that the Mac OS does not have built in support to play Retail Blu Ray Disks.

Can I take this out of its case and install in my desktop for optical drives like I still use?
Asked by: Bruce
The Buffalo 16x Desktop BDXL Blu-Ray Burner, B&H #BUBRXL16U3, is designed to be used externally over USB; we could not guarantee that "shucking" the drive and installing it inside of a desktop computer would allow the drive to work as an internal optical drive.
