Peak Design Camera Cube V2 Reviews

Worth Every Penny

Wanted to replace my old Domke camera backpack and had heard good things about Peak Design. I have been using the company's packing cubes and was impressed. Keep in mind that I cut my teeth on Domke bags and in my mind, they are the bench mark for camera bags. They just really haven't excelled with camera backpacks. Peak Design has built a solid reputation for quality backpacks and the camera cubes looked interesting. So I decided to give the 18L Outdoor pack and SMedium camera cube a try. I've only had the pack for a day and have to say I'm impressed. I've traded in my Canon 300mm f2.8 years ago for a 100-500mm (my main lens) and took a chance that the SMedium would accommodate it. I can easily fit the 100-500mm, 24-105mm, 24mm, 1.4x converter and the Canon R6 MKII in the SMedium. It slides nicely inside the 18L pack with room for a tech bag that will carry my spare batteries, charger and memory cards. The front pockets carry a camera cover (should it rain) and a cleaning cloth. The side pouches sport my water bottle and monopod (tripod is a bit too heavy). All in all the Peak Design camera cube is well made, offers plenty of protection and matches up nicely with the Outdoor pack. Would highly recommend it.

Weird shape

I bought the Smedium Cube because it was the largest sized cube that would fit the 25L Outdoor Bag. And from the get-go, I found it difficult to fit all the lens I would take outdoors (or on a trip) into the cube in a way that made sense. It took a bit of analyzing, but I figured out that the issue is that the cube is tapered downward, like an upside-down trapezoidal prizm. So while the opening is about 10”x12”, the bottom is about 2” shorter in length and width. That really affects what you could fit in there (such as an 8” telephoto lens with hood) in a way that doesn’t displace more space than needed or mess with the weight distribution inside the Outdoor Bag. I also found the shapes of the dividers not practical, and lacking as there is not one that can run down the longest length of the cube. And if they are going to fit inside another bag, maybe less padding to maximize usable space.

I second the comments above - the XL cube definitely fits in the 45 liter travel backpack. See my review and pics - I was worried about it not fitting - the other reviewer's comments gave me the encouragement to try it. It works perfect for me when I have to carry lots of camera equipment. I also have the large size cube - the XL cube gives me the extra depth to store some bigger lenses 'vertically' instead of horizontally which saves space. I included pics in my review.

Will this fit the Peak 30L Travel Bag? If not what is the largest cube that will fit the 30L?

No, the Peak Design Camera Cube V2 (Black, X-Large) will not fit the Peak Design Travel Backpack 30L. The largest camera cubes that will fit in the Peak Design Travel Backpack 30L are the Large and Medium V2 sizes.
