Zoom H6 Studio Overview

The Zoom H6studio brings studio-grade sound to any environment. Featuring large-diaphragm XY microphones, four ultraclean F-Series preamps, and 32-bit float recording with dedicated gain knobs, it's the most advanced Handy Recorder Zoom has ever made. Built with F-Series technology, the H6studio ensures every take is pristine, whether you're capturing music, film audio, podcasts, or field recordings.
Pro Audio Every Time You Press Record
  • The H6studio’s F-Series preamps deliver exceptional clarity with an impressive -127 dBu EIN. Dual A/D converters and 32-bit float recording provide 132 dB of dynamic range, so even the most delicate details are preserved without distortion.
  • The 19.4mm X/Y microphones capture a flat, natural frequency response and handle up to 140 dB SPL—enough for everything from quiet acoustic performances to roaring jet engines. Their stacked 90º arrangement minimizes phase cancellation, producing a clean, focused stereo image.
  • For maximum flexibility, the H6studio lets you toggle between 32-bit float for limitless headroom and 16-/24-bit formats for instantly usable files. Dedicated gain knobs and a format switch make adapting to different workflows fast and intuitive.
Recording Power and Flexibility
  • The H6studio captures up to 8 tracks at once—6 individual inputs plus a stereo mix—at sampling rates from 44.1 to 192 kHz (8 tracks at 96 kHz, 6 tracks at 192 kHz). RF shielding blocks interference from smartphones and Wi-Fi, while shockmounted capsules reduce handling noise.
  • Lookahead limiters deliver clean, peak-free results in 16-/24-bit mode and smooth performance in 32-bit float. Four locking XLR/TRS inputs provide +48V phantom power and +4 dBu line-level support, with an additional stereo mini jack for plug-in powered microphones.
  • The Capsule System 3.0 expands flexibility with support for 32-bit float and a wide range of interchangeable microphone and input modules, including the WLM-1 dual-channel wireless system.
Features and Accessibility
  • The H6studio makes monitoring simple with real-time peak and waveform displays, plus multiple output options including a powerful headphone jack, stereo line out, and onboard speaker for instant playback.
  • A full suite of recording tools is built in, including mono mode, a low-cut filter, file normalization, variable speed playback, A-B repeat, and a start tone for syncing audio to video. Record directly to microSDHC/microSDXC cards with support for capacities up to 2TB.
  • For extended sessions, the H6studio runs up to 15 hours on four AA batteries or can be powered via USB or AC adapter. Accessibility features offer audible menu navigation in multiple languages, ensuring ease of use for visually impaired users.
USB Audio Interface and Timecode
  • Use the H6studio as a 6-in / 2-out USB audio interface for Mac, Windows, iOS, and Android supporting 32-bit float and 16/24-bit recording. Stream and simultaneously record a backup to the microSD card.
  • The optional TCA-1 timecode adapter generates and outputs timecode or jams to an external clock with 0.5 ppm accuracy. You can also receive wireless timecode from the ATOMOS UltraSync BLUE using the TCA-1 or the BTA-1 Bluetooth adapter (both available separately).
  • The BTA-1 also lets you use the Zoom Handy Control & Sync app for iOS to remotely manage multiple Zoom recorders, control start/stop, and synchronize timecode effortlessly.
Optional Accessory Pack
The separately available APH-6st pack includes a padded case, furry windscreen, AC adapter, and USB-C cable for a complete field-ready setup.

Best delivery service + amazing kit

Delivery: This is my first ever order on B&H, and as someone from the Philippines, I'm blown away by their service. Item was packed in under 24 hours, and arrived in under a week--extremely rare for an overseas order. The overall package value is much better than getting this from Amazon, and all the inclusions are so thoughtfully selected--these are tools I would've spent an entire afternoon researching. I'm happy to report that all of them work wonderfully and cohesively. Product: The H6 studio does not disappoint. I imagined it would feel much heavier in the hand considering its industrial look, but it's light for the build quality that you get, and I can easily mount it on top of my Sony ZVe10 Mark 2. The preamps are incredibly clean--why I got the studio series. As a professional voice actor foremost, I'll now be using this as my travel mic + audio interface combo: 462g with the batteries included is significantly lighter than bringing a mic + desktop interface. It's about as light as a high quality usb mic, but I much prefer its no fuss setup, plus I can record foley, ambience + vlog audio with it. 32 bit float lives up to the hype. It blew me away. I could see the gain meters clipping, with tons of red on screen. But I couldn't hear the distortion through my monitors. When I dragged the .WAV into Reaper, I could /see/ the clipping, but again couldn't hear it. I simply dragged the gain down, and to my amazement, the peaks of the transients were perfectly preserved, just as advertised. As someone who's never owned a Zoom recorder in the past, I was simply amazed that I could select the channel which would use phantom power--budget desktop interfaces only allow it across all channels. This is is perfect for versatility. The headphone amps were also very clean. I monitored with the generic bundle headphones that ship with the Arturia MiniFuse, and paired with the H6 Studio I was surprised at how little hiss there was. Even with the headphone volume maxed, I couldn't hear any audible noise, and the recorder’s noise floor sat below about -60 dBFS. I was speaking close into the SSH6e to maximize the SNR, and hit -6 to -12, with the gain settings low. Overall, just very impressed at the quality of this device, and all its inclusions, and B&H's service. It's now going to be my go-to store for audio and video needs, even though I'm based in the PH. Thanks B&H!

Great But Could Be Much Better

So far I'm loving this recorder. The sounds quality is excellent, especially with my tube microphone. The included X/Y mic capsule is very decent for capturing ambient sound to separate tracks. 32 bit float is fantastic. The controls are very well laid out and easy to get used to. The connectivity is very good. I got the bundle with the Bluetooth module, batteries and SD card and that was a great value. A couple of minor misses, though. The Bluetooth app for controlling this device is almost useless. It's only available for iPhone any iPad, not Android (?!?). All it does is start and stop recording of ALL the Zoom recorders that have been added to the app, and set the time/date to those devices to match the iPhone or iPad. Literally nothing else. You can't configure anything, change settings... only start and stop recording. I suppose that's kinda useful, but it could do so much more. The other use for the Bluetooth module is to receive timecode from an Atomos Ultrasync Blue... nothing else. This is kinda baffling. There's a whole bunch of Bluetooth timecode generators out there, but Zoom chose to only support that one. I've used the Atomos Ultrasync Blue before, and the experience was subpar. I ended up switching to Tentacle Sync E, and that's been flawless and super reliable. But I can't use that with this recorder unless I physically jam a receiver into one of the audio inputs. This is especially unfortunate since Zoom's newest product, the Instamic Pro Plus C, supports both Atomos and Tentacle timecode over Bluetooth. Here's hoping that a future firmware update adds Tentacle Sync E support to this recorder! That would likely make this a 5-star product for me.
