AMD Announces New Ryzen 9 and AMD AI Processors

At CES 2025, AMD took the stage to announce some brand-new processors designed for both the gaming and business crowds. From the new Ryzen 9950X3D to their AI-infused Halo processor, AMD aims to have something for everyone in 2025.

Ryzen 9 9950X3D and 9900X3D

When it comes to gaming, AMD has seen great success with the AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D and brought it forward to the Ryzen 9 with the 9950X3D! Based on the 16-core Zen 6 CPU architecture and 144MB of 3D cache, you get up to 5.7 GHz clock speeds, giving it a 16% increase over the previous generation. This makes the 9950X3D an outstanding processor for gaming as well as content creation. In most benchmarks like Blender and Cinebench, AMD said they saw over a 15% increase in performance over the previous generation. The Ryzen 9 9900X3D will also be available, giving users 12 cores and a 140MB cache for a maximum 5.5 GHz clock speed.

AMD also announced FSR4 technology, which will enhance visual fidelity across a wide variety of games published by Microsoft Studios. Games like Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and Starfield will leverage the technology, giving gaming enthusiasts smoother experiences across the board.

Both the 9950X3D and the 9900X3D will be available in March of this year.

AMD AI MAX and Halo

A new range of AI-infused processors are coming to users in the near future with a variety of Advanced, Premium, and Halo series platforms. The Halo itself is said to be the most advanced mobile processing platform from AMD to date built with 40 RDNA 3.5 graphics compute units, unified memory architecture, and integrated AMD XDNA 2 NPU rated for 50 TOPS, and opens up bandwidth, producing speeds up to 256 GB/s.

When rendering 3D assets, the performance is claimed to be over 250% while the graphics performance sees 140% higher performance. This makes the Halo one of the strongest CPUs that can complete tasks with greater efficiency. The various processors will be available later this year and found in devices like the upcoming HP ZBook Ultra G1a, HP Z2 Mini G1a, and ASUS ROG Flow Z13.

Additionally, AMD plans on releasing the Ryzen AI MAX 385, MAX 390, and MAX+ 395 processors, giving you greater scalable performance to handle a variety of heavy tasks with ease. While it isn’t as versatile as the Halo, they still offer great performance and will be widely embraced by various manufacturers at the core level.
