Microsoft Announces the Next Surface Pro and Surface Laptop

Microsoft is excited to announce its latest entries into the Surface family with the latest Surface Pro and Surface Laptop. Both devices come equipped with the latest Snapdragon X2 processor, which yields greater performance across the board and greater bandwidth for on-device programs and AI-enabled applications.

Surface Pro

The king of versatility takes the throne once again as the latest Surface Pro provides users with a wide range of improvements and utility. Combining Surface Pro’s 2-in-1 flexible design with the full capabilities of the Windows operating system, you get a device that can easily fit the needs of your daily tasks. Available in both 12- and 13-inch variants, as well as three color options, the Surface Pro offers a lot with scalability that meets your needs.

What takes center stage on the 13-inch model of the Surface Pro is the Snapdragon X2 processor, which delivers up to 53% faster graphic performance than the previous Surface Pro generation.  The processor is available in Snapdragon X2 Plus 10-core and Elite 12-core variants, so you can choose the best fit for the job. For AI developers and integration, the Snapdragon X2 is rated for 80 TOPS, which is designed to leverage the onboard Qualcomm Hexagon engine.

Multiple memory and storage options are also available. Equip your Surface Pro with up to 64GB of LPDDR5x memory and up to 1TB of storage for the 13-inch model, enabling greater multitasking and general application performance uplift. Onboard Qualcomm Adreno graphics provides smooth and enhanced visual fidelity that’s suitable for both work and play.

Display-wise, there is a lot to consider all depending on your needs. The Surface Pro 12-inch model includes a 2196 x 1464 LCD display with 10-point multi-touch capabilities, sRGB and Enhanced color profiles, adaptive color and contrast options, and a maximum 400 nits of brightness.

Meanwhile, for the 13-inch model you can choose between an LCD or OLED display! Both offer the same 2880 x 1920 resolution and up to 120 Hz refresh rate. The LCD version has a 1300:1 contrast ratio, while the OLED offers a 1-million-to-1 ratio. Both offer sRGB, Vivid, and HDR capabilities, with the LCD and OLED models reaching peak brightness levels of 600 and 900 nits, respectively. Both also offer 10-point touch support, Dolby Vision IQ, auto-color management, adaptive color and contrast, and a whole lot more!

Both models include front cameras with support for Windows Studio Effects with automatic framing, portrait blur, creative filters, and more! The 12-inch model has an HD 1080p front-facing camera while the 13-inch model has a 1440p Quad HD front-facing Surface Studio Camera with ultrawide field of view to capture every moment. Windows Hello face authentication is also built in along with Enhanced Sign-in Security for an added layer of safety. There is also a 10 MP Ultra HD rear-facing camera on both models. Additionally, there are dual studio mics with enhanced voice focus, 2W stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos, and support for Bluetooth LE audio.

Port-wise, the 13-inch model receives dual USB4 ports that support charging, data transfer, and DisplayPort 1.4a support which can handle up to three 4K monitors at 60 Hz. Fast charging is also supported with a minimum 60W charger via Surface Connect or USB-C ports. The 12-inch variant includes dual USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 ports, which also offer charging and data transfer capabilities but only support two 4K monitors at 60 Hz with DisplayPort 1.4a technology. A Surface Connect port is also absent from the 12-inch model.

Other great features include the iconic adjustable kickstand, detachable keyboard, compatibility with various peripherals, such as the Surface Slim Pen (2nd Edition) and a number of Surface Pro keyboards. Security-wise there are plenty of offerings with Microsoft Pluton security processor, TPM 2.0, Windows Hello, Microsoft Defender, Smart App Control, and many more.

The Surface Pro offers greater, long-lasting battery life with up to 16 hours of local video playback and 12 hours of active web usage on the 12-inch model, while the 13-inch model offers 15.5 hours of local video playback and up to 11.5 hours of active web usage.

Surface Laptop

Taking productivity to new heights, the latest round of Surface Laptops come in three different sizes: 13, 13.8, and 15 inches. The 13-inch model includes the Snapdragon X Plus 8-core processor, 16GB of memory, up to 512GB of storage, dual USB-C 3.2 ports, a USB-A port, and offers up to 23 hours of local video playback.

The 13.8- and 15-inch models offer vast customization options with scalability to meet your demands. Both offer a choice between the Snapdragon X2 Plus or X2 Elite processors, up to 64GB of memory, up to 1TB of storage, as well as dual USB4 and a single USB-A port. The 15-inch Surface Laptop also includes a single microSDXC Express card reader for those who like to edit photos and videos while on the move.

Display options are also different depending on the model you choose with the 13-inch model offering a 1920 x 1280 resolution at 60 Hz, the 13.8-inch model including a 2304 x 1536 resolution at 120 Hz, and the 15-inch model offering 3270 x 2180 resolution at 120 Hz. All of these displays are HDR PixelSense-enabled touchscreens, offering vivid imagery and vast colorization that meets your creative needs.

Other great features of the latest Surface Laptop include the one-finger opening capabilities, which enable quick and smooth opening, an enhanced front-facing camera, and multiple sign-in options.

Can’t forget about battery life as the 13-inch model offering 23-hours, the 13.8-inch model offering up to 20 hours, and the 15-inch model giving you up to 19 hours! Creatives and professionals alike would find massive amounts of utility within the device no matter which model you pick.

Microsoft also built the Surface Laptop to include built-in haptic feedback! The touchpad on the new Surface Laptop (as well as the Slim Pen with Surface Pro) offers haptic feedback across Windows and your favorite apps you use every day. Snapping windows into place, scrubbing through a video, everything you do feels more immersive and responsive to your actions thanks to Microsoft’s partnership with Affinity.

Sustainability

Surface devices are built with sustainability in mind. Products are made with recycled aluminum and also offer greater energy efficiency certified by ENERGY STAR. Additionally, the new Surface Repair Tool offers skilled users a guide to fix various components in the event of a failure such as the battery, display, camera, or something else!
