Apple unveiled its latest entry to the MacBook Pro lineup with the new 14” and 16” MacBook Pro with M4, M4 Pro, and M4 Max chips. Sporting the familiar and iconic look of previous generations, the new MacBook Pro features new improvements under the hood designed to give users better performance on the go along with additional ports that transform the MacBook Pro into the centerpiece of your creative workstation.
All MacBook Pro models offer at least 16GB of unified memory as a baseline with configurations that can be scaled to meet your needs. All models also include the Liquid Retina XDR display with the option for the all-new, anti-glare nano-texture display and up to 1000 nits of brightness for SDR content. They also include an advanced 12MP Center Stage camera for video calls and up to 24 hours of battery life for long-lasting performance. The MagSafe 3 charging port also makes a return as well. Additionally, the M4, M4 Pro, and M4 Max processors each feature a 16-core Neural Engine designed to enhance throughput for Apple Intelligence.
Three USB-C ports are available with the M4 MacBook Pro supporting Thunderbolt 4 protocols while the M4 Pro and M4 Max models support Thunderbolt 5. An HDMI video output is also available for conducting presentations or expanding your screen real estate. An SDXC card slot is available for importing and exporting files like photos and videos. A 3.5mm headphone jack supports various headsets.
MacBook Pro with M4
Using second-generation 3-nanometer technology, the M4 family offers enhanced throughput that can handle a variety of daily tasks with ease. Featuring a 10-core CPU divided into four performance and six efficiency cores, you get a solid baseline suitable for a variety of your business and productivity applications. A 10-core GPU leverages hardware-accelerated ray tracing to boost graphical fidelity across your favorite games and digital design software.
Starting with 16GB of unified memory, you get quick multitasking and render speeds with the option to upgrade to 24GB or 32GB for an extra boost in performance. Storage wise, you can select between 512GB, 1TB, or 2TB.
MacBook Pro with M4 Pro
There are two variations of the M4 Pro chip, one offering a 12-core CPU consisting of eight performance and four efficiency cores and a 16-core GPU. For additional throughput, an option for a 14-core CPU offering 10 performance and four efficiency cores and a 20-core GPU is also available. MacBook Pro models with the M4 Pro chip can choose between 24GB and 48GB of unified memory and up to 4TB of SSD storage.
Both the M4 and the M4 Pro models support full native resolution on the built-in display with 1 billion colors and up to two external displays in various configurations using the integrated Thunderbolt ports. The HDMI port can support one display with 8K resolution at 60 Hz or 4K resolution at 240 Hz.
MacBook Pro with M4 Max
Delivering optimal performance to handle the most resource-demanding tasks, the MacBook Pro with M4 Max takes productivity to new heights. Delivering up to 3.5x faster performance when compared to the M1 Max, users can rip through workloads with ease.
Two variations of the MacBook Pro with M4 Max are available, one model offering a 14-core CPU with a 32-core GPU, 32GB of unified memory, and up to 8TB of storage. An advanced M4 Max chip with a 16-core CPU and 40-core GPU is available with up to 128GB of unified memory and 8TB of storage.
The M4 Max can support up to four external displays simultaneously, with support for up to 6K resolution at 60 Hz through the Thunderbolt 5 ports and one display with up to 4K resolution at 144 Hz over HDMI.
The MacBook Pro wasn’t the only big reveal this week.
