Linksys waited until 2017 to announce its entry into the Whole Home Wi-Fi arena and the company intends to use its networking expertise to blanket your entire home with seamless, fast, and reliable Wi-Fi coverage. Mesh networking has been around for quite some time, and most people understand it as Wi-Fi coverage for your entire home using what has become known as network nodes (or little routers). With some home mesh network systems, the signal can degrade as you expand your system by adding additional nodes. Well, Linksys aims to remedy that with the VELOP Whole Home Mesh Wi-Fi System, available as a single unit, two units, or a pack of three; with VELOP, your network performance remains constant regardless of the number of units you are using.
When choosing the configuration that is right for you, it is essential to know just how much space you intend to cover with your Wi-Fi connection. A single unit is set to cover roughly 2,000 square feet, two units can cover up to 4,000 square feet, and three units would be needed to cover up to 6,000 square feet. Regardless of the configuration you choose, you can rest assured you will receive 100% of your available bandwidth throughout your entire coverage area. This means you can download large files, stream 4K multimedia content, game online, and more, all at the same time with virtually no network lag.
Getting back to speed and connectivity, each aesthetically pleasing router that makes up the Linksys VELOP system features tri-band AC2200 MU-MIMO connectivity, giving connected devices their own pathway to the network. Inside each router are six internal antennas and high-powered amplifiers producing that robust Wi-Fi signal. In addition to wireless connectivity the Linksys VELOP routers all come equipped with dual Gigabit Ethernet ports for a reliable wired network connection option.
Once configured, the network can be managed from your smartphone or tablet using the Linksys App. With this handy app, it is possible to configure parental controls, grant guest network access, prioritize devices on the network, and much more. The Linksys VELOP also supports WPA2 wireless encryption to ensure your network remains safe from intruders.
