On October 12, Microsoft held an event to announce its next-gen Surface lineup for its laptops, tablets, and all-in-one desktop computers. During the event, Microsoft announced the Surface Pro 9, Surface Laptop 5, and more. Microsoft also unveiled the new features coming to Windows 11.
Surface Pro 9
The Surface Pro 9 offers a choice between two processors—a 12th Gen Intel® Core™ processor or a Microsoft SQ3 processor. Let’s go over the differences between the two models.
The Surface Pro 9 is available with either a 12th Gen Intel® Core™ i5 or i7 processor and is built on the Intel® Evo™ platform. In addition, you’ll also have dual Thunderbolt™ 4 ports, which can have up to 40 Gb/s of data throughput. This model has a battery life of approximately 15.5 hours (may vary depending on usage). Stay connected with Wi-Fi 6E (802.11ax). The 12th Gen Intel® Core™ model is optimal for use with professional software and local gaming.
If you opt for the Surface Pro 9 with the Microsoft SQ3 processor (powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon), you won’t have Thunderbolt™ 4 (just two USB-C ports), but you’ll gain 5G connectivity, allowing you to stay connected while on the go. This Surface Pro 9 model has a battery life of up to 19 hours. The Microsoft SQ3 model is optimal for mobile productivity and cloud gaming.
Both models feature a 13" PixelSense Flow Display with a 2880 x 1920 resolution, a dynamic 120 Hz refresh rate, and 267 ppi, as well as sRGB and Vivid color profiles. The 10-point touchscreen allows for finger and pen support and Gorilla Glass 5 to prevent scratches. However, only the Intel® model features Dolby Vision IQ support.
Crafted with high-grade aluminum, the Surface Pro 9 now features four anodized colors, which are Sapphire, Forest, Platinum, and Graphite.
Surface Laptop 5
The Surface Laptop 5 features the latest 12th Gen Intel® Core™ i5 or i7 processor and now has Thunderbolt™ 4 support. The Surface Laptop 5 is now verified as an Intel® Evo™ device, making it 50% more powerful than its predecessor. Complete with Windows 11 and a long battery life, the Surface Laptop 5 provides an ideal balance of performance and portability.
The signature 3:2 PixelSense display is available in both the 13.5" and 15" models. The display also features Dolby Vision IQ, which provides optimal picture quality, vivid colors, and sharp contrast for any lighting conditions.
The Surface Laptop 5 is available in a few different options, such as Platinum (Alcantara), Platinum (Metal), Sage (Metal), Black (Metal), and Sandstone (Metal).
