Built with compatibility for 3rd-Gen AMD Ryzen Threadripper processors, MSI’s TRX40 PRO WIFI TRX4 Motherboard has been designed with an extended heatsink that provides improved thermal conductivity and allows your components to remain cool, even when they are performing tasks that require increased processing power. Designed with an ATX form factor, MSI approached this motherboard in a forward-thinking manner, equipping it with four PCIe 4.0 x16 slots and one USB 3.2 Gen2x2 Type-C port, plus Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax). The PCIe 4.0 standard provides up to 64 Gb/s of bandwidth, while USB 3.2 Gen2x2 provides up to 20 Gb/s, which is the same as Thunderbolt™ 2. Wi-Fi 6 supports MU-MIMO and delivers speeds up to 2400 Mb/s.
Other connectivity options include three USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A ports, four USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A ports, and one USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 Type-C port, all mounted on the rear panel, plus additional internal USB headers that support USB 3.2 Gen 1 and USB 2.0. Additional PCIe connectivity is accomplished with one PCIe 3.0 x1 slot, and wired networked connectivity is possible with two Gigabit Ethernet ports. If you do find yourself running out of USB ports, Bluetooth 5.0 will let you connect compatible peripherals wirelessly.
For internal storage, there is a plethora of options, including eight SATA III 6 Gb/s ports, two M.2 Key M slots that support PCIe 4.0 x4 and SATA III SSDs. While both slots support 2242, 2260, 2280 form factors, one of the slots also supports the 22110 form factor. If, by chance, you find yourself in need of additional SSD storage, MSI has included its M.2 XPANDER-Z add-in card, which supports two additional M.2 SSDs.
The TRX40 PRO WIFI also doesn’t lag when it comes to memory, because its eight 288-pin DDR4 slots support up to 256GB of quad-channel memory. When over-clocked, memory speeds can reach as high as 4666 MHz.
Integrated graphics are not supported, meaning that you’ll need to purchase a dedicated and compatible graphics card of your choice. If you are looking to take advantage of multiple GPUs, 3-way NVIDIA SLI and AMD CrossFire technologies are supported.
All in all, whether you’re an enthusiast gamer or a prosumer, MSI’s TRX40 PRO WIFI Motherboard will keep your build current for years to come, thanks to its updated tech, fast transfer speeds, and a large number of internal and external connectivity that will allow your components to be upgraded.
