Designed to help Thunderbolt™ 3 users build an end-to-end 4K workflow environment within Windows 7 or 10, Promise Technology has designed the Pegasus3 PC Edition Thunderbolt 3 RAID Array. Depending on your individual needs, several different models are available, including the Pegasus3 R8, Pegasus3 R6, and Pegasus3 R4. Those engaging in more intensive tasks with larger storage requirements would benefit from the R8, which has eight 3.5" drive bays, comes in capacities of either 32TB (8 x 4TB) or 48TB (8 x 6TB), and supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50, and 60.
Mid-level users would appreciate the R6, with its six 3.5" drive bays, 24TB (6 x 4TB) capacity, and support for RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, and 50, while users with smaller needs can take advantage of the R4. Its four 3.5" drive bays offer a capacity of 12TB (4 x 3TB) and support RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, and 10. All Pegasus3 models support hardware RAID, come pre-configured as RAID 5, and have two 40 Gb/s Thunderbolt 3 ports. RAID 5 offers a good balance of performance and data redundancy, and for those who do not require a RAID, the Pegasus3 may be configured as a JBOD. While one of the Thunderbolt 3 ports is used to interface with your host system, the other allows users to daisy-chain up to six additional peripherals, such as dual 4K displays or a single 5K display, thanks to Thunderbolt 3’s compatibility with dual-bandwidth DisplayPort 1.2.
All drive bays in each model of the Pegasus3 are hot-swappable, except when configured as RAID 0, and an included Thunderbolt 3 cable helps get you up and working quickly. Whether you’re looking to upgrade to Thunderbolt 3 or just future-proof your existing setup, the Promise Technology’s Pegasus3 PC Edition Thunderbolt 3 RAID Array is a worth considering.
