Seagate Introduces Two New High-Capacity Drives

No matter how you look at it, data grows and expands at an exponential rate. To help us better handle all of this binary information, Seagate has updated its IronWolf and Exos X14 lineups with some additional options.

Designed for use in 1-8 bay NAS environments, Seagate’s IronWolf drives are a staple for those who need one that can endure 24/7 usage. With the advent of its 10TB IronWolf 7200 rpm SATA III 3.5" Internal NAS HDD, Seagate presents an option for those who want a single drive with double-digit storage capacity, but don’t need a 12 or 14TB drive. Seagate backs this 10TB capacity with a 256MB cache, data transfer speeds of up to 210 MB/s, an MTBF of 1 million hours, 600,000 load/unload cycles, 1 in 1015 non-recoverable read errors per bits read, and a workload rate of up to 180TB per year. Additionally, Rotational Vibration (RV) sensors help maintain high performance, especially in multi-bay enclosures.

While IronWolf drives are a good starting point, some data needs are even more intensive. Designed for the hyperscale storage market, Seagate’s 12TB Exos X14 7200 rpm SAS-3 3.5" Internal Hard Drive delivers large storage capacities for high rack space efficiency. It utilizes an SAS-3 12 Gb/s interface, a 256MB cache, and a rotational speed of 7200 rpm, all of which help to deliver uninterrupted data transfers with sustained rates of up to 261 MB/s. Its reliability is backed by 1 sector in 1015 non-recoverable read errors per bits read, 2.5 million hours MTBF, an annualized failure rate (AFR) of 0.35%, and 8760 power-on hours per year for 24/7 usage. This Exos drive also features PowerBalance technology to optimize its IOPS and power values, plus it is helium sealed for no porosity and uniform density.
