The LG 4K UHD HDR-Compatible Monitor

Every so often a new trend captivates the market, encouraging manufacturers and consumers alike to buy into the next hot fad, such as 3D, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Nowadays, the biggest ones seem to be 4K-resolution displays and HDR (High Dynamic Range) content. First announced at CES 2017, the 31.5" LG 32UD99-W monitor features 4K UHD resolution of 3840 x 2160 and HDR10 compatibility. With four times the resolution of a standard Full HD screen of 1920 x 1080 pixels, 4K displays provide you with clearer and sharper images for impressive details. The bezels are also mighty thin, for a more immersive viewing experience.

Built with an IPS (In-Plane Switching) panel, the monitor offers wide viewing angles of 178 degrees, horizontally and vertically, and a wide color gamut with high accuracy that’s ideal for content creators dealing with color-sensitive work. Its high brightness rating of 550 cd/m² ensures HDR compatibility and improved contrast. As for HDR, it’s a great addition that truly shines only when you can see it in person. There are a few titles with HDR on Netflix and other streaming sites, and they don’t seem to be stopping just yet, so expect to see more and more as the push for HDR continues.

On another note, the 32UD99-W also supports AMD FreeSync, allowing you to use it as a gaming monitor with compatible AMD video cards for a smoother gaming experience. FreeSync technology syncs the display’s refresh rate to the graphics card’s frame-rate output, reducing tearing, ghosting, and stuttering. Another plus is that you’ll also be able to play HDR games once they’re released, or patched to support it. If you purchased a video card recently, there’s a good chance it already supports HDR. Moreover, the 32UD99-W has game assist and eye comfort features, providing you with a helping hand on and off the battlefield. Please note that, to take advantage of FreeSync, you’ll have to use the DisplayPort interface instead of HDMI.
