Motion detectors are typically associated with adrenaline-packed thriller movies in which an undercover spy tries covertly to scoot across a room guarded by nothing other than motion sensors. Infrared beams fragmenting the entire room, the agent must contort in awkward positions to reach the prized diamond or jewel and bring it back to a secret lair. However, motion detectors have a much more practical use—increasing the functionality of your surveillance system. Bosch’s new motion detectors offer a wide range of detection distances to meet your needs and keep your office or home safer. They use PIR (passive infrared) sensors or microwave detection technology (or both) to detect motion accurately indoors.
Bosch’s entry level Blue Line PIR Motion Detector has a relatively large coverage are of 40 x 40', allowing you to monitor a large room, such as a living room—also available in a pet-friendly version, but more on that later. The next step up is the Professional PIR Motion Detector, which has a larger 50 x 70' coverage area, and features Tri-Focus Optics technology for the ability to select between short-, medium-, and long-range detection, thanks to three separate focal lengths. It reduces false alarms by being immune to drafts, insects, and small animals moving within its 90-degree field of view. If you’re worried that your cat, dog, or other pet will interfere with the motion detector and provide unnecessary interruption, go for the Pet-Friendly TriTech Motion Detector. The 20 x 20' coverage area is ideal for medium-sized rooms, and its ability to negate up to two 100-pound pets makes it a great option for those with small or large pets. This motion detector, as well as the Professional TriTech+ Motion Detector, uses a PIR sensor and microwave technology to provide more accurate motion detection. The latter is designed for larger rooms and can monitor up to a 60 x 80' space. Small animals (10 pounds or less) will not interfere with the sensor, ensuring proper detection.
For longer distances, be sure to look at the Long Range PIR Motion Detector, which can sense motion in a narrow, but large 10 x 200' area while using the included OA200 mirror. Select the aforementioned coverage area, or change it to a 50 x 80' coverage area using the included OA80 mirror to suit your needs. This detector has an LED indicator light that goes on when motion is detected, and provides standard, intermediate, or high sensitivity to match your desired detection level. Finally, the Panoramic Motion Detector does just as its name suggests: detects motion 360-degrees around. Mount the detector on the ceiling in the center of a room to enable motion detection from up to 50' away. You can even set up to 50 detection zones for pointed motion detection, and like the previous motion detector, it has a red LED indicator light. All the previously mentioned motion detectors can be integrated into your current alarm system to provide extra security with the addition of accurate motion detection. Use them to trigger camera functions, siren alarms, or lock doors with a full integrated surveillance setup.
