Smarter than your average speaker, LG’s new offerings in the wireless speaker category feature some intelligent technology that sets them apart from the crowd. Part of the ThinQ line, the WK7 and WK9 feature Google Assistant and Chromecast built in.
Both the WK7 and WK9 function like any other Bluetooth speaker. You stream audio to them from a Bluetooth-equipped mobile device, such as a smartphone or tablet, after going through the usual pairing process. However, with built-in Chromecast, you can bypass the need for pairing by connecting them to your home network. Working over Wi-Fi, any mobile device on your home network can stream to the speakers instantly.
With the WK9 and its built-in 8" touchscreen, you get the added ability to stream video. You can stream from a host of Chromecast-enabled apps, such as Netflix, YouTube, Hulu, Vudu, Sling, and many more. Imagine streaming a cooking video to the WK9 in the kitchen so you can follow along, or rather than streaming your favorite song, stream your favorite song’s music video instead.
Google Assistant is another smart feature built into the WK7 and WK9. If you own an Android phone, you may already be familiar with how this works. Just say “OK Google” or “Hey Google” to ask either ThinQ speaker a question, and the speakers will utilize their Wi-Fi connection to get you an answer. You can use Google Assistant to find out sport scores, make calculations, or translate a phrase. You can also speak commands to have the ThinQ speakers perform specific functions, such as telling them to play a specific Pandora playlist, or with the WK9, telling it to play the latest Luke Cage episode from Netflix.
Regardless of what kind of audio you have coming out of the WK7 or WK9, LG and Meridian Audio have partnered to make sure it sounds great. Speaking of audio quality, the WK7 may not have a screen, but it is engineered to provide exceptional sound. It supports high resolution audio output up to 24-bit/96kHz, along with 24-bit up-sampling.
So, which new model of ThinQ is right for you? Do you prefer the audio fidelity of the WK7, or would you rather have the visual capabilities of the WK9? Whichever you choose, B&H has you covered. Both the WK7 and WK9 ThinQ smart speakers are available for pre-order right now.
