When it comes to HMIs, K 5600 Lighting, with its Joker series of lights, is one of the best names in the business, and now we are seeing a solid upgrade to this series with the Joker² at NAB. Keeping the same basic form, this updated line offers a few key enhancements that makes it even a more reliable lighting tool for photographers and videographers. The series is available in 400W, 800W, and 1600W versions, and these have already been implemented into various kits.
With the Joker² 400, we see a notable bump of 25% to the output, making it equivalent to that of a 575W HMI fixture but with approximately 30% less power consumption—an impressive feat. This is the smallest option in the Joker² series, currently, and can be used either without a reflector for use in lightbanks or with a PAR beamer and lens to create a more directed output. A big change in the Joker² is the ballast, which is high-speed with 300 and 1000 Hz frequencies, and now offers built-in wireless DMX control via LumenRadio, even allowing for control using a smartphone or tablet.
Moving up the line, we have the Joker² 800 that was designed for improved performance in lightbanks, enabling 50% more output compared to a standard PAR 1200W. The Joker² 1600 is for those who need the ultimate in power with an equivalent output that exceeds that of a 6000W Quartz halogen lamp. Besides power and overall size, these fixtures share many features, as they both support two different beamers, the standard PAR with four lenses and a Zoom Beamer with a 15-55° or 15-60° beam angle, respectively. All the electronic ballasts have wireless support and can be run on standard AC power—even the most powerful 1600 only draws 15A on 120 VAC.
