Ever need just a bit more power? Don’t want to sacrifice portability? Profoto has you covered, with the B10 Plus. Another addition to its ever-growing line of battery-powered off-camera flashes, the B10 Plus is a nice option for those who want a more powerful portable light or want to add a bigger option to their kit for the moments that call for it. If you want to compare it to the existing B10, there are three main things to know: the B10 Plus offers twice the power, is a bit bigger, and weighs more. Otherwise, the two lights share the same accessories and functionality.
At 500Ws, the B10 Plus matches the output of many full-fledged monolights. This new light is much easier to fit into a bag alongside your camera gear, however. Its battery is rated for 200 full-power flashes, each of which is about ten times what you would get from a speedlight, and it’ll recycle each of these in just 2.5 seconds with a flash duration of 1/1300 second (t.5). If you want speed, at minimum power it’ll recycle in just 0.05 seconds and provide a flash duration of 1/50,000 second (t.5). On top of that, the battery will recharge to full in 1.5 hours.
Hybrid shooting is common these days, so people who need to shoot video can make use of the 2500-lumen modeling/continuous LED to light up their shots. It can run for 75 minutes at full power and offers adjustable color temperature. This makes it a versatile light that can be your single option to take care of stills and video, as needed, and makes switching between the two modes a breeze. It also means that all your OCF Light Shaping Tools can serve double duty as photography and cinema modifiers.
As with all of Profoto’s other releases, the B10 Plus is a part of the wireless Air System. This allows it to be controlled remotely by all Profoto Remotes, including TTL support with select, supported camera systems. Built-in Bluetooth adds another layer by allowing direct control via the Profoto app for iOS. Access all settings and make adjustments on the fly with your smartphone.
The B10 Plus is another option for users looking to build their perfect, portable lighting kit. It’s available as a single-head kit or a Duo Kit. What do you think of this new addition to Profoto’s lineup? Let us know in the Comments section, below!
