Today, at Meta Connect 2024, Meta announced a new Meta Quest 3S virtual reality headset, which the company touts as its “most affordable mixed reality headset,” as well as new features and partnerships for its popular Ray-Ban Meta glasses.
According to Meta, the new Quest 3S headset features the same mixed-reality capabilities and speedy performance as Meta’s flagship headset, the Quest 3, only at a lower price point. Consider it a low-cost upgrade to either the Quest or Quest 2, with mixed-reality features that can rival the more powerful Quest 3.
Although it’s not as technically advanced as the Quest 3, this new budget-friendly headset offers a strong feature set in its own right, including high-definition optics with a per-eye pixel resolution of 1832 x 1920 and a max refresh rate of 120 Hz, multi-positional Fresnel lenses, and a 96° horizontal and 90° vertical field of view—which is a slight improvement over the Quest 2’s horizontal FOV. Similar to other Quest headsets, Quest 3S does include a spacer for your glasses if you need one.
Meta revealed there will be two size variants of Quest 3S available, a 128GB version and a more spacious 256GB option. Customers who purchase the Quest 3S will also receive a free copy of Batman Arkham Shadow for a limited time.
Along with the new headset, Meta also announced it was adding several new features to its popular Ray-Ban Meta glasses, including real-time speech translation, improved AI features, and more. Meta also revealed several new and expanded partnerships aimed at improving existing features and adding new capabilities, including voice commands for apps like Spotify and Amazon Music, and new accessibility features for blind and low-vision users.
