PTZOptics is a key player in the remote controllable PTZ camera market, and the brand’s new Hive platform promises to be a comprehensive and easy-to-use solution for creating dynamic multi-camera productions that can be streamed out and recorded. The new PTZOptics Studio SE Hive-Linked camera, available with 20x or 12x optical zoom, isn’t technically a PTZ camera, as it can’t pan or tilt, but what it can do is seamlessly integrate into Hive and provide a host of different outputs, including NDI HX3, 3G-SDI, HDMI, USB-C, and IP.
At the core of the Studio SE box camera is a 1/2.8" CMOS sensor that supports resolutions and frame rates up to 1080p60. The camera has a front-tally light, built-in microphone, and line in and outs for audio. The biggest selling point here is its ground-up compatibility with the Hive network, meaning you can access and control the camera from anywhere in the world without the Studio SE needing a dedicated computer or any additional hardware.

Aiding this connectivity is the camera’s ability to simultaneously output via multiple connections. If you need a feed on-site but also want to have the video viewed or controlled remotely, you can have SDI, IP, RTMP, and NDI all going out at once. The camera can be controlled via buttons on the side of the unit, an included remote, PTZOptic’s web UI, a smartphone control app, dedicated physical controllers, the Hive Studio software, and more. The camera can be powered via an included AC adapter or via PoE with a network switch.

If you don’t need the pan and tilt functionality of a traditional PTZ, but still want to use the Hive platform to stream, record, and control your fleet, the Studio SE is worth a look.
