Viltrox is excited to announce a new large aperture APS-C format prime AF 56mm f/1.2 Pro E lens, which will be available for the Sony E and Fujifilm X-mounts. The perfect everyday portrait lens is nothing new for Viltrox, which has delivered various iterations of the technically short-telephoto 56mm focal length (84mm full-frame equivalent). This is the first 56mm lens from Viltrox to come at such a bright aperture and the latest edition to their “Pro” series lineup.
The bright f/1.2 aperture is ideal for difficult lighting conditions and gives the user greater control over depth of field and better ability to isolate the subject for those smooth, buttery backgrounds with beautiful bokeh.
This lens features advanced autofocus performance that forgoes the traditional stepping motor (STM) autofocus mechanism in favor of the near silent Voice Coil Motor (VCM) mechanism for fast and accurate focusing. No distracting noises or whirs, just tack sharp results. Speaking of which, the optical design of this lens features 13 elements in eight groups including one extra-low dispersion element, three high-refractive index lenses as well as one ultra-high precision aspherical lens for reduced color fringing and chromatic aberration for greater color accuracy and overall image quality.
A High-Definition Nano Multi-Layer Coating adds a waterproof and smudge resistant layer to the front element. Paired with the lenses overall water and dust resistant construction, you can confidently work in some of the toughest weather conditions.
The lens also features a relatively compact 67mm filter thread, which it shares with other f/1.2 lenses in Viltrox’s lineup, so you can conveniently swamp filters between lenses. Another returning feature is the USB-C port for easy firmware upgrades.
If you’re looking for a fast-focusing portrait lens for your Sony or Fujifilm APS-C system, this might just be the lens for you.
