As audiences consume more and more video, it’s increasingly challenging to create bold, striking visuals that stand out from the crowd and truly engage viewers in a story. Lighting remains—arguably—the most underrated tool for that mission. Even the most budget-friendly camera and lens on the market can capture beautiful images when paired with thoughtful lighting choices. While accurate LED panels used to be large, heavy, and expensive, that is no longer always the case, and Genaray’s new PX-MOD-3 modular RGB LED panel is proof of this, clocking in at only 5.5 lb. Available on its own or as a three-light kit with a larger yoke custom-designed to hold them, the PX-MOD-3 has a suite of effects and controllable pixel zones. What might that mean for your next shoot or live event? Let’s look at the four features that make it stand out.
Controllable Pixel Zones
The PX-MOD-3 has 384 AW and 192 RGB LEDs that come together into sixteen pixel zones. These zones mean that the panel’s ten animated effects and seven pixel pattern effects can play out with swashes of color and light across the entire front of the fixture. Many of these effects also have customizable intensities, speeds, patterns, and frequencies. You can tweak the panel’s output more granularly via its smartphone and tablet app to create complex, nuanced effects. Group panels together to achieve a maximum of 320 pixel zones for large scale events and shoots.

Wide CCT Range
If you want to keep things simple, the basic CCT Mode on the PX-MOD-3 covers a wide color temperature range of 2800K to 8000K. Within that sits nearly all possible daylight and tungsten conditions, meaning you can match or simulate sunshine and traditional indoor fixtures. This mode is especially handy if you don’t want to mess with the app and only want to control the light using the on-board dials. 5600K for daylight, 3200K for tungsten, 4400K for something in the middle. Play around with it and see what works best.

Full RGB Functionality
Now if you want to step things up a bit, switch over to HSI or Gel Mode. HSI allows you to dial in an exact hue, saturation, and intensity (aka brightness), with a hue range from 0° to 359° and pre-programmed red, green, and blue defaults. The Gel mode contains 48 looks modeled after classic film industry gels. The subtle variations within the gels are helpful for dialing in the mood of the shot without getting bogged down in the endless possibilities of HSI. These RGB color options are also useful for events, with the PX-MOD-3 giving you much more of a pop than a small party light can.
High Color Accuracy
All of the above features wouldn’t matter much without this last one. With a CRI score of 95.3 and a TLCI score of 99, you can trust that the PX-MOD-3 will give you accurate colors and less splotchy, messy tones than budget industrial and event lighting. That means natural skin tones, punchy RGB splashes, and more seamless integration with other video equipment. Whether you’re using the panel on its own or as part of a larger configuration, the PX-MOD-3 can grow with you and be a great creative tool for style or realism.
