Harlowe is bringing some fresh ideas to classic on-camera lighting with the new Pocket Flash, combining a standard hot-shoe flash with a bi-color continuous LED and an integrated Z-axis stand that raises and tilts the flash head for unique angles. Weighing just 125g, the Pocket Flash is a truly pocketable accessory that might just change your photography and videography work.
In standard Flash Mode, the Pocket Flash has a guide number of 12 (ISO 100) across seven power levels (1/1 through 1/64). Harlowe says it can manage 35,000 flashes per charge at lower settings, and 700 at full power with 2.3 second recycle times. Drop to ¼ power and recycle times are just one second. In Continuous Light Mode, the Pocket Flash uses a 2W bi-color LED with a 4W Boost option. The LED has a CRI of 96 and an adjustable CCT of 2700 to 6500K.
The Pocket Flash has a magnetic modifier system and comes with a Dome Diffuser for a softer look. The stainless steel Z-axis stand is the most eye-catching feature here, allowing you to raise and lower the Pocket Flash to avoid the harsh front-facing blast of a typical flash in favor of more depth, shadow, and customizability. It should also be useful for avoiding lens shadows, and creating more layers in the frame.
The Pocket Flash comes in Brown or Midnight Black colorways. The Standard Kit includes the aforementioned diffuser, a travel pouch, and a USB-C charging cable, while the Creator Kit adds in a vegan leather Carrying Bag, four magnetic color gels, and a Material Blade adapter that can swap between four different Blades for projecting creative shadow patterns on your background or subject.
The Flash has a threaded base for off-camera use, and the controls on the unit are built to be intuitive, with just a single dial, dedicated Mode button, and a screen. Harlowe says the Pocket Flash should prove especially useful for hybrid creators, live streamers, remote workers taking video calls, and travel photographers wanting a flexible, low-profile flash.
