Filmmakers often use a traditional Fresnel lamp to create a beam, wash, or hard slash to carefully shape light in their scenes—drawing attention to a character or action when capturing dramatic content. Now with the release of the C3 3000W Full-Color LED Fresnel Light from pro lighting brand Creamsource, DPs and gaffers get a big film-style light for designing adjustable beam looks while maintaining LED fixture advantages like full color adjustment, reliable cooling, and lower power consumption.
Powerful Output
The Creamsource C3 is designed from the ground up as a Fresnel, letting users choose a dedicated unit rather than adding modifiers to a panel fixture. LED panels are lighter in weight and easier to control than conventional Fresnel or HMI fixtures. But while they shine (pun intended) at creating soft, even light, LED panels are harder to modify into creating a beam or hard-edged light.
The C3 outputs a powerful average of 10,000 lux at 33’ when fully spotted at 18˚ and 1500 lux at the same distance in 60˚ full flood, offering high efficiency for a point source of this scale. Its Fresnel lens is shaped like a square which helps to minimize gaps and shadows when combining multiple units, reducing the need for diffusion on light arrays. The Fresnel lens remains fixed in place at the front of the unit with the spot-to-flood movement occurring inside the fixture. This 18 to 60˚ movement is controllable via DMX or manually using an avionic speed-control panel.
Color Range and Management
The C3 incorporates a new seven-color BCGLARD engine for full color control that extends the native Creamsource Vortex gamut by 20% while covering over 92% of Rec. 2020. Using the same CCMS (Creamsource Color Management System) as the Vortex and Micro series, the C3 provides factory calibration and color algorithms in the native CIE xy space, enabling Creamsource fixture-to-fixture consistency, while maintaining a high degree of accuracy at every dimming level. Its optical system is tuned to produce beam uniformity, smooth roll-off, crisp shadows, and minimal color fringing. The C3 also supports camera sync input and flicker-free shooting past 5000 fps.
Rugged Design and Reliable Cooling
Constructed with a rugged design for all-weather conditions, the C3 has an internal power supply and an IP65 rating for water resistance and dust protection. The fixture is housed in a built-in cage that is designed to be grabbed, lugged, and rigged, standing up to repeated use and compatible with the Creamsource LNX mounting system. The C3 also features a liquid cooling system that extends the light's capabilities together with a new thermal management platform.
