Hands-On Review: the Canon EOS Rebel T5i DSLR

With the EOS Rebel T5i, Canon has updated the top of its Rebel line of DSLR cameras with a model that follows closely on the heels of the very similar T4i.The Canon T5i features an 18MP APS-C-sized sensor, high-quality 1080p video recording at 30 fps, and it's got a fully articulating 3-inch touch screen. In this hands-on review, Larry Becker of Kelby Media finds the T5i nicely built, well laid-out, full of great automatic modes to complement the professional manual modes, and capable of capturing great-looking video and images.

If that sounds like its predecessor, it should. Really, the T5i features only a few updates over the T4i: the body finish is updated, the mode dial now rotates all the way around, there’s now a real-time preview of Creative Filters in Live View, and the T5i can zoom digitally during movie recording. Also, if you're interested in a kit with a Canon 18-55mm lens, the lens that comes with the T5i is an STM model. Despite the minor update in features, the EOS Rebel T5i, like the T4i, is an excellent choice for a DSLR.
