As a cold January draws to a close and some more snow drifts down on New York City, Fujifilm has decided to warm us up with a fun and powerful new release for everyday shooting: the X-A5 Mirrorless Camera. Offering stylish design and superior components, the X-A5 aims to be your daily-carry camera, and it has some significant upgrades in the form of 4K Burst shooting and improved low-light performance that make it very appealing. Being bundled with the camera is a newly developed lens, the XC 15-45mm f/3.5-5.6 OIS PZ, a power zoom offering that balances a compact design with high-quality optics and, when paired with the X-A5, it creates a versatile kit that weighs just 1.1 lb.

Building on its predecessor, the X-A5 offers excellent imaging capabilities in a svelte leatherette-wrapped body. This includes the use of a newly developed 24.2MP APS-C CMOS sensor with a native sensitivity range of ISO 200-12800 and upgraded processing that is 1.5x faster than previous models. The X series camera will also work at speed with continuous shooting speeds of up to 6 fps and intuitive controls that are all accessible with a single hand. Additionally, this is the first of the X-A series to use phase-detection AF points in an Intelligent Hybrid AF system that is twice as fast as its predecessor.

On the back is a 180° tilting touchscreen LCD that makes it easier to capture selfies, while a sub command dial can be used for quickly adjusting some camera settings. It has Wi-Fi and Bluetooth for speedy, near-immediate transfers of your images to a smart device for easy sharing. Video capabilities have been bumped up with various advanced modes to help you capture moving subjects. The primary improvement is the addition of UHD 4K recording, which can be used as part of a 4K Burst shooting function to let shooters pick the best frame from the 15-fps footage captured. A high-speed mode can also be accessed for 4x slow motion with 720p resolution. Finally, a Multi Focus Mode will capture multiple images in quick succession and then compile them into a single photo with deep depth of field.

Along with these advancements to hardware and processing, Fujifilm has added a variety of features to the camera, including 11 of its popular Film Simulation modes and 17 options for Advanced Filters, including the Fog Remove and HDR Art functions. Other features include automatic activation of the Eye AF function when the screen is tilting upwards and a Portrait Enhancer Mode to create more beautiful tones.

Sitting beside the X-A5 is the first power zoom lens for X series cameras. The XC 15-45mm f/3.5-5.6 OIS PZ features an electronic zoom control for smooth adjustment between the camera's 23-68mm equivalent range. This makes it a great choice for stills and video shooting. Additionally, it features a minimum working distance of just 2" for stellar close-ups.
