Joining Hasselblad’s X System of mirrorless medium format lenses, the company is announcing the lightweight, compact XCD 28mm f/4 P wide-angle lens. As a sleek prime with an impressively low-profile form factor, high-quality optics, and precision focusing technology, the XCD 28mm f/4 P lens was designed to take outsized, medium-format photography into the chaotic confines of city streets.
Measuring a scant 1.7" in length and weighing about a half pound, the XCD 28mm f/4 is at least half the size of Hasselblad’s other wide-angle options. This palm-sized portability is perfect not only for street photography, but travel, nature, and urban architecture, as well. The lens further maintains the X System’s design standard with its metal body and focus ring.
With a 22mm equivalent focal length, the optical design is downstream from the lens’s form and function, arranged in a nine-element, eight-group structure that includes two aspherical elements and one extra-low dispersion element. Promising edge-to-edge sharpness, this efficient design meets the resolution requirements of X System sensors. Additionally, the lens’s minimum focusing distance of 9" and a 1:6 magnification ratio makes it an excellent option for wide-angle close-ups.
Extending the lens’s versatility are its autofocus and leaf-shutter features. The built-in linear stepping motor and the lighter, smaller focusing lens group combine with Hasselblad’s phase-detection autofocus to achieve fast, accurate, and responsive focusing. And, like other X System lenses, the XCD 28mm f/4 features a leaf shutter, which makes flash synchronization possible at shutter speeds up 1/4000-second, introducing new possibilities for dynamic lighting at the moment of peak action.

What is the sensor size?
Wrong product! So sorry!
As the Hasselblad XCD 28mm f/4 P Lens is a lens, it does not have a sensor size. However, it is designed for use on Hasselblad cameras that use the Hasselblad X lens mount. The Hasselblad X1D-50c Medium Format Mirrorless Digital Camera has a 51 megapixel sensor, the Hasselblad X1D II 50C Medium Format Mirrorless Camera has a 50 megapixel sensor, and the Hasselblad X2D 100C Medium Format Mirrorless Camera (pictured above) has a 100 megapixel sensor.
I am a major fan of the X2D 100c and this lens looks like a good addition to my set. The 55 and 38mm of the new generation perform excellently so I hope this one will as well.
Will they include a lenshade or offer one as an accessory? I hope so but suspect they’ll go the 45/P route.
Yes, the Hasselblad XCD 28mm f/4 P Lens does come with a lens hood.
