Lowepro’s popular ProTactic BP 350 AW II and BP 450 AW II Camera and Laptop Backpacks have just gotten an eco-friendly materials update makeover and are being added to Lowepro’s new Green Line of products. We’ve already reported on the increased sustainability of the PhotoSport III camera bag line and we are happy to share the news that these two ProTactic bags are joining in the fight to reduce waste and decrease Lowepro’s carbon footprint.
As a strictly materials update, the appearance, features, and functionality of the the ProTactic BP 350 AW II and ProTactic BP 450 AW II remain unchanged and the new bags will sport the same urban, tactical, utilitarian look favored by many photographers, regardless of their shooting locations. We first introduced the expanded ProTactic series of bags in this article and they quickly became best sellers due to their design and feature set.
In review, both bags feature rugged versatility and armored protection, multiple access points, an external modular attachment system and convertible utility belt. The ProTactic BP 350 AW II is designed to house and hold 1-2 standard DSLR cameras (one with an attached 24-70mm f/2.8 lens), 8 lenses or speedlights, a Mavic drone, Osmo 360 camera, and a travel tripod. The larger ProTactic BP 450 AW II accommodates 1-2 pro DSLR cameras (one with a 70-200 f/2.8 lens attached) and a larger tripod plus the same lens/accessory load out as the BP 350 AW II.
Many of us want to do our part to make the world a cleaner place, and Lowepro is working hard on its end with a goal of creating gear with 100% recycled, reused, or upcycled content. The Lowepro Green Line tag shows a loading bar indicating what percentage of material is recycled in your new ProTactic bag. The green line score is based on the GRI 301-2 standard, which measures the percentage of recycled yarn used by weight when compared to the total weight of the yarn.
The new, eco-friendlier green line ProTactic bags clock in at a respectable 64% rating. The ProTactic BP 450 AW II has an overall score of 63% with 26% solution-dyed fabric and 37% recycled fabric. The ProTactic BP 350 AW II is rated a 64% green line with 28% solution-dyed fabric and 36% recycled fabric. Solution-dyeing is a greener manufacturing process that combines the extrusion and dyeing steps to achieve water savings of 80% as well as a carbon emissions reduction.
