Sigma Announces Latest Art Lens: 28-105mm f/2.8 DG DN Zoom

Sigma’s 2024 run of lens releases continues with its debut of the full-frame 28-105mm f/2.8 DG DN Art lens, available for Sony E and Leica L mounts. The unique zoom range, which contains the popular 85mm portrait focal length, is sure to entice wedding and other event photographers or anyone looking for a bright and versatile all-in-one zoom. Like its other recent Art lenses, this new zoom lens features Sigma’s latest autofocus technology, superior image quality, and customizable buttons, all in a compact and durable lens body.

An advanced optical construction featuring large-diameter FLD glass along with aspherical elements keeps this lens at a manageable two pounds without compromising speed, quality, or versatility. The lens maintains a consistent minimum focusing distance of 15.8” throughout the entire zoom range with an added 1:3.1 maximum magnification ratio at the telephoto end. The high-response linear autofocus is quick and quiet, while the lockable aperture ring, click/declick button, zoom lock switch, and two AFL buttons enable the user to optimize the lens for any situation.

Like Sigma’s other Art lenses, the new lens’s magnesium barrel construction has a dust- and splash-resistant design with water- and oil-repellant coatings for shooting in adverse environments.

Several slower kit lenses have existed in this zoom range, including an older Sigma lens, but this new Art lens will be the fastest of its class in more than 25 years. Its only true forebearer is Tamron’s 28-105mm f/2.8 LD Aspherical IF SP AF lens, which debuted way back in 1997. While it was a bit loud and unwieldy, like the new Sigma 28-105mm f/2.8 it carried its bright, f/2.8 maximum aperture throughout the entire zoom range, making it a popular choice among professionals and layfolk alike.

Will the Sigma 28-105mm f2.8 be available with an RF mount?

According to Sigma America's website, the Sigma 28-105mm f/2.8 DG DN Art Lens is available for the Sony E-mount and the Leica L-mount lens mounts.  As of the date/time of this reply, they have listed no information about the Sigma 28-105mm f/2.8 DG DN Art Lens being released for the Canon RF lens mount.  Whether or not this will change in the future remains to be seen, but at this time, there is no Canon RF-mount variant of this lens.

Absolutely! I saw the ad and immediately clicked on it to BUY the thing, only to find out it's not in F mount? AARRGGH!

The Sigma 28-105mm f/2.8 DG DN Art Lens (L-Mount) like most photo lenses compared to some cine lenses is not parfocal.

Let me know when it comes out in Nikon F mount for my D850.

Since Nikon stopped making F mount cameras and lenses, I don't believe Sigma will make future F mount lens as well. It is even a question of whether they will make a Z mount for this release?

Sigma is not making all of their lenses in Z mount, unfortunately. Seems like Nikon controls a lot which lenses they can release. I hope that more lenses can made by Sigma for both F mount and Z mount.

Sorry Sigma, I need a 24-105 f2.8.  Not a 28.

So buy a 14-24mm and enjoy the fantastic new lens improvements being made. If you're in need, pay double the cost for 4mm difference and get the Canon version.

I'm waiting for some Tamron or Sigma lenses that are Canon mount. I already have the sigma 15 to 50 for crop sensor Canon
